converting the auto kesev to manual 4ac.... now up to the pedal box swap....

putting a manual pedal box from an ae86... will it bolt straight in and with the hydraulic clutch do I need to drill any holes...

I looked at it on the 86 and it looked like you would normaly have to remove pretty much everything from the car to get it out ( steering rack, brake booster, dash, etc.. )

is anyone able to give helpful hints for this conversion from someone that may have done it once or twice ?

Craig_AE86 and I did this one before, however we used an AE71 pedalbox into an auto KE70.

you will need to get a holesaw bit to drill a hole for the clutch master, and this is a bitch, because you either have to drill from inside the footwell or make a guess.

however there is no reason to take anything out apart from a few trim panels under the dash. from memory, you might have to drop down the steering column down, but this is no biggie at all, and I think it is just for access purposes.

the best piece of advice I can give you is to look at how it goes together in your AE86, and then just transfer it over. It should be a fairly straightforward procedure.

so best way would be run a pilot hole from inside the car and do the whole sawing from outside ?

this will be good as I will need to know also when I do the conversion soon

yeah, fit up just the pedal box assembly and drill form inside, would be heaps easier I imagine, then just finish it up fromt he bay and hook up your clutch master, form what I remember seeing in my car, is one of the brake lines in the KE go right acorss where the hole needs to be drilled, so might wanna look into moving that somehow

It would require the drilling of holes at the least, and a bit of grinding at the most I assume.

it's wak

cutting an d welding required

it's doable, but I in no way recommend it

better option is a T18 pedalbox. still needs mods to the bit that bolts to the bulkhead but it can be used and is a far superior option to an 86 pedal

AE71 pedal box is also an option.

I know for a fact that there are 2 T-18's and AT LEAST 1 AE71 down at Jew-Steal-It Lonsdale.

There's your pedal box.

 yeah AE71 pedal box is the ultimate option

should have mentioned that

but yeah T18 is MORE of an option than AE86 but no where near as good as the direct bolt in AE71 item

so ??? only have that 12 foot high 30.000+ volt fence to tackle

Dave

so an ae71 pedal box will bolt straight in no hassles... other issues is brakes... I want to put my ae86 brake booster in...but was told that have to fit all the ae86 lines also...can anyone shed light on this too

Gilly
1st August 2007, 12:39 AM
it will fit fine, booster has a larger diameter but physically fits and puts the master in the same spot as the original 70 item

did it in my original 70

f**k they things I learnt on that car

I really wouldnt worry bout the other booster not much gain out of it

and yes the ae71 pedal box goes in hassle free just nee to get the hole for clutch master in the right place, the one I did was a bit out but nothing a file couldnt fix, no bigge anyway it all gets hiddes when it's together

good luck with it, very time consuming but very fiddly

there is a template floating around on here somewhere

you can print it out and it's the right size

I did my holes in like 10 minutes

massive props again to whoever did it

possibly in tech articles

Dave

oh well wish me luck guys :) so the 86 brakes wont make a big enough gain over the 4k auto ke70 brakes ? the issue I worried about with the master cylinder was how all the lines will line up if theyu have to be changed/cut/modified... but if it's not a good enough gain and that difficult I will leave it, thanks a bunch guys, appreciate it immensely

use the brakes, but you don't need to change the lines or anything, you will need to use ae86 struts too will pull up a lot better, the booster or master wont make a difference though

Dave

completed... easy as fuck. 1JZ.... remove clutch pedal of pedal box fit it to car and the thread will stop if going into firewall.. give it a tap with a hammer and it will imprint the firewall... drill that hole out and the pedal box will bolt in, drill a hole perfect in the centre of the clutch slave hole on the pedal box and make a pilot hole. ou can use a hole saw but they get offline to easy and its actually alot quicker and easier drilling a stack of holes then giving it a quick file out... after that put the cylinder in and bolt it up, then run the hydraulic clutch line along the brake line at the firewall and put 2 small holes in chassis and put 2 bolts in, should make there own thread as u fit them. fit hydraulic fluid and bleed clutch and ur winning :D

Step 2

Wiring.

now 4ac and 4k are VERY Different.... exhaust is on opposite sides meaning alternator, coil, starter and all that crap also are on the wrong side.... im having a look at this tomoro night with a mechanic friend whether theres a easy way around it or whether to source a factory ae71 wiring loom off a car at a wreckers.... seems like the easier option will be the wreckers as i want this all neat and dont want wires running from one side of the engine to the other.
will continue posting up all the details i can think of to make this easier for other people

to bolt the 4ac in you need to drop the old 4k crossmember out which it 4 main bolts thru chassis, and 2 small one at front from memory then fit a ae86/ae71 crossmember, use this with standard 4ac mounts and it bolts in fine, havent bolted trans up yet or tailshaft but will update when i do that, atm the biggest issue is wiring and fuel lines come to far forward .... so there shall be a bit of modifiying ,

post up more soon :D

dude, this is the easyest converion in the world..

an ae71 body loom... pppfff dont even trip home dog.

just lengthen the wires from the coil, easy as piss.. join all + wires into 1 and all- ones aswell to make thing cleaner. run them along the firewall to the other side. the fuel lines, you have 2 options. 1 bend them or 2 get a length of fuel hose and just run it to the pump and return lines.

too easy. if you have any other questions just yell.

Dave
5th August 2007, 10:37 PM
too late... mates apprentice mechanic has cut the whole loom out and is fitting the sprinter one.... meh

6th August 2007, 07:50 PM
sounds good ae71.. might have to do that way instead of hassle with all the wiring and loom.

Dave called up the wreckers and they said they sold the last pedal box on saturday which im assuming they sold it to you.. damnn itt
