So the Australian Government is paying for my engine rebuild  and i am wondering would would be the better combination for engine durability and power. i am running ZE with T28

I have two options:

Do i spend all my money on a set of oversize arias forged pistons and use all the standard ZE gear.(means i have no money for absolutely anything else <_< )
I CAN BUY A SET WITH RINGS FOR $935

OR

Do i spend the money on oversize toyota genuine ZE pistons but use ARP head studs, better cams and cam gears and a metal head gasket? (then maybe have money left over for nardi wheel and boss kit :2thumbs: )
TOYOTA WANT $550 FOR PISTONS THEN ANOTHER $320 FOR RINGS. ABSOLUTE RIP IMO

Not from personal experience, but I've heard ZE pistons are VERY good pistons, even in standard form.
Go with option 2 I'd say.

DEFINITELY the second option. standard GZE pistons are a work of art, unless you are going bullshit power (300kw+) dont bother :)

how about the second option and get atmo cams to save even more cash, also I wouldn't be suprised if standard head bolts are fine

Yep, I would say the second option would be the way to go. I like the look of it.

Best of luck dude!

Is there going to be much hp gain in that though running a turbo setup?

I dont know what he meant by getting NA cams?
I thought that 4AGE and 4AGZE cams are the same?
Its just if you get big cams and you have a large turbo, you will get a lot more lag.

Ie: engine power AND turbo power all coming on late in the rev range, meaning you have no bottom end power.
Keeping standard (or NA???) cams will keep low power so your turbo can reach boost quicker, maybe not giving you the SIK 180rwkw you wanted but something more reasonable like 160 at the rears.

But then again, some of the people with 4AGTEs on here run large cams and turbos in their drift cars, which is where you'd need a lot of power in the mid range. Best to ask them, as they seem to know their stuff.
Orange Charged 86 (Eddy) is one person, i think he knows a good direction to go.

Sorry about all that crap i just wrote lol.

Also maybe an aftermarket computer to get rid of your AFM may be a good option?
Also helps with tuning and detonation when running more power (makes it safer)
lol one more thing, whats wrong with the pistons in there atm? they are ZE items yes?

the NA bigport 4age cams have slightly longer duration and higher lift, nice cheap easy upgrade...

Hen is a total nutcase
7th August 2007, 02:04 AM
The difference in cams is not NA vs GZE (for the same year, they have the same). Early cams are bigger and longer than late cams. And the change happened before the bigport -> smallport change.

Go option 2. Use good fasteners and Toyota pistons.

from very recent experiences (mashed an arias forgie and have to buy a whole new set engines done bout 100ks.)) use genuine pistons. arp studs are not worth the money maybe just get new toyota ones. get a trd metal gasket .8mm for sure!!!!!!!!!!! and cams and gears or moreso adj cam gears for power!!!!

no gze rings are alot harder wearing rings because they are made for boost and are different thickness!!!

Where do the people thier pistons and ring set's for $500 then? All i've heard is talk but you don't say where you got them from.(not a rant btw)

These might be the cheapest if they have a 20mm pin

This guy here has arias forged pistons for a 4AGE but the come with a 20mm gudgeon pin and an 8:6 comp ratio.
Best of all is they come with a ring set for a grand total of $638
THESE WILL FIT IN MY GZE WON'T THEY?????????????????????????????????????????

Probably but I just had a look and that is a US Site so you might want to factor in the exchange rate plus postage.

it will depend on the rods for the gudgeon pin size. theres 18mm and 20mm varieties. it will also check to see if they supply them in different overbore sizes.

the $638 is AUD and postage is like $5 per item in his disclaimer so it should only cost me about $25 for postage

i have the 20mm rods and i don't mind if it's an 82mm bore size.

the cheapest ive seen 4AGZE!! arias pistons in oz with rings is over $930 those 4age pistons even though they have 20mm gudgeons are high comp ratio pistons and im not sure but id say for that price they wouldn't be as good quality as the arias 4agze pistons!!!

sounds to good to be true

25 for postage to aus? he would be loosing out there.

forgies for a 4age would be hi comp, which wont suit your application

Went and bought the half mil oversize toyota forgies today.
for some reason there was a price hike when i went and got a quote so that was the wrong price.

Ended up only costing me $790 in the end which ain't too bad actually
