Im looking at getting a set for some social golf action. Main thing i am wondering, whats a reasonably good brand? I assume brosnan, top flite, callaway etc. are all good, but whats a good intro brand? Are Wilson, Slazenger, Inifiniti etc. any good?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Travis

I was uber lucky and found a set of Titleist John Player Lotus limited edition clubs. Was like a tribute to the lotus racing team. But let me say they cost me a pretty penny with out bag cart etc.

It all depends on how long have u been playing and how good you are. I would suggest buying a set from a golf whole saler or large golf store as u should be able to test them out in store and see if they are right for you. Brand wise i personaly dont think is much of an issue if your just a social golfer unless you want "the look" Price wise just give them a price range and work from there. Another idea would be talk to your local Golf Pro and see what is suggested.

Golf is 80% mental if you feel good and feel confident u will play well if u botch ur first drive and get in a shitty mood be prepared for a crap game. Same goes for clubs if u feel confident with them u will play well. Its all in your head

I have about 2 - 3 sets of clubs, 2 bags and a bag carrier....

I got into golf a while ago and was a natural but i haven't been playing golf and a long time... so yeah not to good these days..

But i started off with a 2nd hand set of ladies clubs... Me being young and short, they were the perfect size..

I have a few different sets of clubs..

Name a few now.. Norman shark ones.. Cougar.. ummm ive forgoten the others..

But yeah if your interested buy some 2nd hand ones, a bag or new for like 50 - 100 bucks..... cheapies and a bag carrier... Golf mania's clubs and so forth are cheapish or any golf store and or club. Golf clubs normally have a golf shop where they have 2nd hand stuff...

But good luck with it all

for a first timers set of clubs it is stupid to buy a GUN set of clubs as you won't be good enough to use them properly.. a set of dynacast or slazengers will be perfect for the occasional golfer.. good clubs are designed for good players..
Go to your l;ocal pro shop and they will tell you the same thing.. there are plenty of cheap beginner sets available at pro shops, just look around and dont be fooled into paying top $$ for a sik set of callaways or cobras..
hope this helps..

Im starting a golf apprenticeship next yr and work in a pro shop, at Tallwoods Golf Course.
It really comes down to money if you have the money get a set built for you, doesnt really cost any extra but is only available in the bigger brands Titleist, Callaway, Ping, Cleveland you get the idea, which for a whole set is around $2000-$4000.
If your just out for a wkend hack then just go with a cheap package with the lot bag, putter, woods, irons and a buggy u can get some for around $500 from alot of the golf shops House of Golf, Drummons, Golf Works places like that. Your not going to get top notch quality but you dont need that for just a social hit here and there.
Make sure the clubs have some sort of warranty and you feel confident with them thats the main thing. Golf is all about confidence and controling emotions.
Hope this helps you make the right choice.
Cheers

Thanks for all the replies!

Trust me, im not about to smash $1000 on a set of clubs when essentially, i am just learning. I'll go visit some golf shops sometime soon and have a swing of some clubs. Im fairly tall and i dont really wanna get some custom ones made. Do they come in longer sizes?

Thanks
