Diff center for grip driving.

Hey fellas,

What is main choice grip drivers go with diff center i heard that it is usually 1.5way? Is that correct?

I have no idea what people end up choosing, but just thinking about it... I would say a 1-way or 1.5-way LSD. It may come down to how good the driver is.

The only critical time would be when your braking hard after the main strait into a corner. So as not to lock the front brakes, you go down the gears. But if you downshift too hard the rear tyres lock up. If both rears lock up, you may end up sideways. With an open diff, maybe only 1 rear would slip and you would still drive straight?

It's all about that split second, hard braking, downshifting, heal-toe, steering. Easy to get it wrong with or without a LSD.

My guess:
For an ugly handling car that is going to understeer, purposfully setup some oversteer just before the apex. So a locker or 2-way helps here. (WARNING: maybe viewed as "drift" by caretaker followed by a stern warning).

For a perfect car and driver:
A open diff will be fine. But an LSD could improve grip in places unless the track is also perfect.

my imported 86 that i owned a few years ago, was clearly a time attack/track set up car, and it ran an OS Giken 1 way.

I think it depends on the driver and what they want out of the car.

when you corner hard in a one way it likes spining the inside wheel alot and alot of speed is lost. Coming from my car which is a well balanced 86 and has a 1way.

In a car with a more than average amount of power will spin the inside wheel even on any plate type LSD,
and we always found most of our cars were quicker with a locked over any LSD,

Not suprising, V8 supercars run full spools.

I ran a TRD 2-way in my last car without even knowing it.
It was great, not harsh at all, I was running good tyres but barely lost traction ever
I was put off 2-ways for grip by reading all the negatives about them on the net and drove it for ages not even knowing I had it.
The new 86 runs a factory LSD and I find it more prone to lock up/break traction

all that being said I was involved in an epic crash but thats a different story
