im going from a S diff to a T series diff.

the T series has no sway bar mounts do you have to weld some on or do you just take it out?
and can you use the S series tail shaft?

weld on if you get early T18 diff (later series have sway bar?) or get JDM AE86 diff $$$. S Series Tailshaft is 20mm shorter. There is a tech article on this change if you look.

early Model T-18 = rear swaybar optional (albeit a rare option)
late model T-18 = rear swaybar standard

You will need the rear half of a T-18 tailshaft, these are 20mm shorter, and bolt to the front half of your AE86 tailshaft.

Also search next time, this info is everywhere.

:edited, poor info:

ajps sells new sway bar mounts for series 1 t18 diff whichs is what u have i'm guessing

i just did this last week end

source a t18 or t series tailshaft try to get both halfs cause they are balanced

and hand brake cable will be fiddly if going from s series drums to t series with drums (just a heads heads up)

The Ae86 shaft is 20mm longer not shorter

by running the 86 item with a T series diff the tailshaft contacts the centre bearing mount.

heres a few tricks though to get around it

1. bolt up the AE86 tailshaft (it will be hard to join at the diff flange due to length)

2. now its bolted up undo the 4 bolts that join the two halves together and swap them around so the bolt head faces forward and the nut faces rearward.

3. loosen the 2 14mm bolts that hold the centre bearing mount to the chassis. it should move forward as the mount is slotted.

this will free up some room

i ran my oroginal 86 like that then my beige 70 afterwards, never had a drama.
