View Full Version : Control arm hitting rotor backing plate

Hi
I have recently installed some Whiteline 25mm Roll Centre Adjusters and since this I have found that the furthest out point of my Lower Control Arm's are sort of rubbing against the backing plates of my brake rotors, causing the plates to bend slightly, but not enough to contact the actual rotor (that I can see)
Has anyone else had any experience with this? Is it possible that I haven't actually lowered my car enough to be using the RCA's? or is there another issue such as a bent backing plate or something else I'm not thinking of?

The suspension setup is:

Standard Length Strut Housing with spacer in top.
KYB Excel shocks from rear of SW20 MR2
AJPS 6kg/mm springs, unsure of the free height, when I bought them I was told they'd keep the car legal height, which they do (they just sit captive with the MR2 shocks)
Whiteline LCA bush
Standard ADM brakes
All other components standard ADM (LCAs, steering arms etc.)

I was contemplating just cut the backing plate off so that the lower control arm didn't rub any more.
The other thing I was considering was just removing the RCA's as I didn't notice much difference in handling when I put them in I've heard that they do make a fair difference, but me not noticing it could of been because I had an issue with my swaybar linkages at the time that I changed them.

Sorry for the long post.
What are peoples thoughts on this?

Thanks
Blake

take the backing plate/dust cover off

plus you'll get more airflow threw there

this seems to be a common problem eh?
solution: grind the lip off the end of the LCA - done.

So I take it this is a fairly common problem?
seems a bit strange...
taking my backing plates off then, not gonna grind my LCA

i had this, combination of longer LCAs and RCAs.

DO NOT CUT/TOUCH YOUR LCAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i got my dremel out anc cut away the section of the dust cover that was touching the LCA, mostly because the sqeaking noise was shitting me, either do that or just get rid of it. come to think of it, i cant rememeber why i didnt piss off the whole thing.

Get different control arms like so...

They are a touch longer but much better than having to compromise the LCA to get clearance.

shit eddie, you need to work on your macro photography :P do those knuckles alter caster/mechanical trail also?

offset RCAs would get you out of trouble, but RCAs is what got you into trouble, so you are harldly going ot get new ones i guess
