you'll find the original tacho won't take the digital signal from a ECU.
i'm running a stock nissan computer in mine but this solution will work on any signal.
i bought a 2nd hand 4 inch autometer tacho and removed the counter module and shift light from it and then wired it up to the magneto/tacho driver on my factory cluster, wire the ecu tacho signal into the new counter module(and ign power and so on), then using a tachometer on the plug leads, adjusted the trim-pots on the back of the autometer counter module till it sync'ed up with my dash clusted.
my dash cluster now reads the digital nissan signal and i mounted the shift light into it as well.
it's a bit hard to explain exactly how to do it but you get the idea, but if you get to that point, post some pics up and i'll guide you through it.

I used this tutorial on how to mod the tacho to get it to work off my microtech

http://www.rollamods.com/tech/ae86gzetacho.pdf

Takes about 1 hour and costs 30c

I think it would be the same as your situation as the tacho signals are different coming from the microtech are different to the one the standard computer puts out.

Just a matter of changing the resistors and capacitors shown in the pdf.
