Hey Guys, Ive been quoted a price for an engine and wondering if you guys think its worth it.
Its a 16V 4age smallport. Im not sure exactly what colour top. Comes with Ecu,Loom and fuel filter. It has the TVIS Intake on it, and is already converted to rear wheel drive. It was rebuilt 9 months ago, with all receipts. Also, has a ported head.
I was quoted $1000 for the engine, thinking of doing it especially because of the fact it is already converted so saves a lot of fcking around. Just wondering what you guys think of the price??
Cheers
Hugh

Sounds like a good buy to me. Just check out who rebuilt it etc, cause if it was a backyarder job it may be on its last legs. Have you seen it running?

$1,000 is a good buy

small port is better than bigport IMO and as you said rebuilt and RWD spec is a big plus as well

ask about rebuild receipts or info on rebuild

Thanks guys, sounds promising. I was told its a small port out of a ae82 and is the 86kw one...that makes sense? because i thought that all smallports were the 100kw engine, but im guessing i got that wrong...

it could be a smallport but with the rwd tvis inlet on it ?, u cant really tell unles u strip apart the motor to tell if it is a smallport

there is plenty of ways to tell... take a photo and then we can see what it is.

red writing on rocker cover = small port
blue writing on rocker cover = big port

if its out of an AE82 its a bigport, if it has TVIS, its a bigport. 86/92kW = bigport. 100kW = smallport

Swapped or repainted rocker cover = that way isnt really reliable.

If your not rushing man look around at import sites and levin/trueno half cuts. Although it takes longer it is generally cheaper to do if your not in a rush. I got a jdm half cut with full Jdm Dash gearbox tailshaft jdm rear end disc to disc with all leads and wiring for $3000 to my door. Even had a couple of trd goodies with it aswell. It seems big but when you add up buying separately over here it is always cheaper. But you need to look around and look at how much money you are spending

it cheap. id buy it

it sounds like a smallport with a rwd intake manifold obviously off a bigport.

4 rib block = bigport
7 rib block = smallport

thats the only real way to tell

Not really seeing as its been rebuilt. The only real way to tell now is by the size of the ports... take the intake manifold off or check for an adapter plate if its a TVIS manifold.

Eddie.

Regardless of this engine being rebuilt with receipts, always check compression.
