need a little help. i more then likely have a bent rear left hand axle in my wagon (dont ask). and need to find a replacement asap,so my questions are:
- are left and right hand axles the same?
- are sedan diffs (axles) the same as wagon diff (axles). the wagon diff's are leaf and dont have panhard/swaybar mounts, so the outside of the housings are different, but are the axles interchangable?

and a little off topic (to get the most from this thread...)
what shocks/springs would be good for a daily drifter. thinking sierra in the rear, and not sure up front (will have ra40 struts up front). going to runs an extra (flipped) leaf in the rear which will hopefully do the trick, at least initially. was thinkin of getting some custom 6 or 7kg front springs made up for the ra40 struts?

-cheers.

P.S. i need this car on the road by next weekend for work...

im guessing you have a 70? i personnally dont like sierras in the back for daily driving, good for drift but very harsh for sydney roads

i have a ae71 wagon, for interests sake. the rear shocks are shorter then stock sedan shocks also.

depends how much shorter they are

but in general...sierras suck! they are way to short for sedans, this is at a usable height, not dragging along the ground (140mm to the jacking seams or so)

there is a thread in the tech artices about rear suspension, have a look in there

i recommend the lowered commondor wagon shocks, they work good for me

as far as the axles are concerned i believe that they have a leaf sprung s-series the same as sprinters..?

if this is correct than ke70/ae71 sedan axles will not fit.

just remember that its not quite as essential for your shocks to be matched perfectly to the shocks as far as hight is concerned because your leafs aren't going to pop out i hope.

really you just after something with a heaver valving..? commo shocks are a decent bit stiffer then std ones and about 2"? shorter then the sedan ones.

i sold some TRD adjustable blue shocks to a guy with a ke55 (leaf rear) and he seems quite happy with them, they are normal stroke to, probaly doesn't help you much but yeah.

from what i have been told/seen for myself the diffs in the ae/ke wagons are the same as in the sedans - other then the external mountings - . mine is a borgy, and the backing plate off a sedan is currently bolted to the rear of the housing. there is an ae71 wgaon at the wreckers with a diff it it, but its missing the left hand axle (how anoyingly ironic). so really only needing to know if the right hand side will work in the left hand side.

as for rear shocks im going to go ahead and fit the leafs in and measure how low they make the car then buy shocks accordingly. i'd prefer short stroke since the leafs wont be having much movement once i add an extra one (upside down).

thanks for the replys.

and again, could mods please move this thread....my bad

Wrong on the first one, right on the 2nd.

The AE71 WAGONS have the same diff as the sedan (borg-warner), however it is leaf sprung so the mounting points are different, but that is all.

The AE71 PANEL VANS have the same diff as an ADM sprinter (S-Series), so obviously the axles from a regular AE71 or KE70 won't fit.
