Hey fellas,

I have a smallport in a 71. Running a pod and extractors, its also running the cold idle up system. First problem is that it idles at about 1700rpm when hot. I have adjusted the idle screw and the screw on the throttle but still is not enough adjustment. Any ideas to get it down lower?

Second problem is that it hunts very very badly.
It idles at 1700 then goes to 1500 then back up to 1700 in about a second. It can do this for minutes on end. You give it a little rev and it will idle normally at 1700 then start hunting again. Im guessing it might be a valve or something?

If anyone has any info would be most appreciatted.

split in the MAP line, or maybe its come off?

vacumn leak on one of the manifold lines?

Make sure all unused vacumm lines are blocked off (special attention to the ones attaching to the cold start idle up). High idle/vac leak will cause it to hunt in revs up and down....

Awesome background music :)

Never discount the vac lines, although hunting can often occur for a number of reasons. Crack in the manifold/plenum, broken throttle body, TPS broken or not working properly, something not wired to the ECU properly. Those are all options, the one that I saw for myself was ae86fow's Levin, and that was a broken throttle body. Whole unit was replaced, crappy idle and hunting/panting gone. Don't discount that as a theory either, as it can affect both quite badly.

That looks very much like there is air in the coolant lines.

bleed the coolant system first. Check the water temp sensors.

Next step check for vaccum leaks.

check tps also could be part of problem too
