Haiguyz.

I've inherited/saved a fair wad of cash. (Before anyone bites my head off I've allready allocated a fair ammount to be put into a term deposit and investments).

And I've put aside around 5-7K to spend on things for me, which to no suprise am planning on spending on the car.

I've made a basic list in my own head of some shit I'd like to get. Just thought I'd ask you guys what's the best way to spend moolah.

Basic run down on the car at the moment.
-Bigport 4age, TRD 4-2-1 extractors, exhaust.
-Cushioned button clutch, Open centre t series diff
-Meshies all round (Was thinking bout some better wheels for more grip and track)
-Pedders suspension

etc...

I was thinking bout an engine conversion but dodged the idea as I can't be arsed.

Suspension
Diff
Wheels
Inside stuff
Other stiffening items

Just a few things I focussed on.

Shit this is long.

Thanks in advance.

(If you guys are going to say suspension, can someone list some specific benficial parts for me to, got a rough idea, just want to see what everyone else thinks)

bump up to 10k

20v 7a turbo monster

recess firewall and 2j it, go nuts! lol

honestly, figure out exactly what u want to do with the car, whether it be drifting, drag or grip and go from there, there is no point puttin money into a car if ur not 100% on what ur gonna do with it. then once youv'e sorted that, figure out what style of driving u do(soft, hard or fuckin kill it). take ur driving experience into account(ie the power u feel safe with). for example if ur gonna be doin grip work go for tyres, wheels and suspension, if u wanna go drag racing obviously put it into bigger motors, or if ur only goin driftin then u probably would want a bit more power and better grip, steering response and braking

it all depends on what u wanna do, once you've sorted that out, it should be easier to see where to put the money, and no offence guys, but if ur gonna listen to what other people wnt on ur car u won't be happy cause u will be driving a car built to the specs of what someone else prefers which u may not.
so ask your self 3 questions, does it handle the way u wnt, does it have enough power for what u wnt and does it stop well enough for what u wnt. thats where alot of people go wrong they just spend the money where they are told, and not where they feel they need it

do suspension doesnt matter what your going to use it for you will benefit, what size wheels you have atm?

riojin

with 5-7k on your car id do this

suspension

AJPS custom 8kg front lowered as far as kings "lows"
AJPS custom 6kg rear lowered as far as kings "super lows"
adjustable TRD shocks front (yellows?)
adjustable TRD shocks rear blue
TRD 24mm front swaybar
TRD 16mm rear swaybar
TEIN Pillow Ball Upper Mounts

theres more you can do on your suspension but unless youre going all out theres no need

engine
rebuild bigport and add
ITB's :D
264 cams (nothing too crazy for your daily)
port and polish
aftermarket ecu

drivetrain
heavy duty clutch
TRD shortshifter
2 piece tailshaft
JDM zenki disc rear end
TRD mechanical 3.9 2-way LSD

other
get some MA61 calipers (like JDM calpiers. same amount of pistons just wider for vented rotors) for front and rear
brembo slotted/vented/crossdrilled rotors
braided break lines
bucket seat that will not give you a defect or not pass rego - i dont have one so i dont know what one

that should leave you under 5-7k easy.

keep the exterior looking stockish like you have it now. it looks good enough and wont attract any unwanted attention.

also i dont wanna flame but you can do better than a term deposit with the rest of the cash. putting your money in a bank doesnt even let you break even with the interest because of inflation. find something better as an investment.

if you have any questions on why i choose this stuff or wheres the cheapest places to aquire them just send me a PM. if you want investment advice you can PM me also but its best you talk to a financial advisor (my sister is one thats how i know about finance)

spare 86 with some goods?

Dish
17th November 2007, 04:43 PM
I've got 15x7's on it at the moment. Offsets are shit, have 20mm spacers on the front. I'm wanting to go something like 15x8.5 or 9 with a neg offset.

Main things I want to do:
Suspension
Stiffen it up
Seat
Hook my guages up
Oil cooler kit
2Way
Change the exhaust a tad
Strip the rear half of the interior
Rear strut brace
Some wider wheels for grip
Whiteline tail-lights

Seem reasonable?

Was thinking bout buying a built 4agze. But as it's my daily and no one else can take me to work it's a bit hard as I always need the car.

Best way to spend all that money?
Buy an 86 already built.

its cheaper and easier to buy one already built.
the only down side to it all is the fact that you know you didnt put the blood sweat and tears into making the car, all you did is hand over the cash for someone elses hard work

my 2 cents

Dish

Well I'm not going to sell mine just to buy another one with more work done.. As I'd much rather slowly piece mine together till I'm fairly happy with it.

spend 2g on a registetred diahatsu charade. would be the best way to help your sprinter build along. so it can be off the road for more than 2 days at a time.

depends wat for but if for grip the best tires you can buy its teh only thing between ur car and the ground say prop yoko advans a048s....but not for drift

Dish
17th November 2007, 06:26 PM
I'm more interested in grip/hill runs at the moment. Not so much into drift.

Rocket's list looks pretty good.

I've been looking at getting some 15x9 meisters.

Look at riojins list... You wont need to worry about doing a coil-over conversion, as shocks and springs are much cheaper and practical for your application. You might want to look at 6kg front and 4kg rear, springs wise... so it will be a little more comfortable ride for your daily purposes. TRD springs or AJPS alike. Its all the same.

I cant vouch for the work equip's enough though. P0rn rims.

Gunner

if ur lookin at doin climbs, i'd suggest more torque, more grip. build a high comp motor with a set of cams, on the suspension side of things, keep it a bit softer and dont go to short stroke(lots of alterations in the hills ya dont wanna run out of travel) decent adj sway bars, a set of semi slicks for comp days
i wouldn't do much more than that. and that would probably eat up ur budget

Gunner

"spend 2g on a registetred diahatsu charade. would be the best way to help your sprinter build along. so it can be off the road for more than 2 days at a time. "

and that is probably the smartest thing said so far

IMO, drum rear end is good enough..

5000= my rims from japan, the whole front suspension/steering/brakes done. everything i want on the car up front.

might have some change left over to finish interior off, but i dont think so as i want a lightweight bucket, some can cost a bit!

If you want to build your car for grip and daily i'd go;

Rims, whatever size you like in a 8inch wide at the front and back, or even a 9inch wide in the back. In a decent offset, doesn't have to be coming out your guards if you don't want it to.
(budget $1500-$2000, with tyres, depending on what style rim you want)

LSD, i'd recommend a Kaaz 2 way, but they'll all do the job.
(budget $1200-$1300 installed)

^^^Could even throw in a higher final gear ratio while you do the LSD, a 4.3 or 4.5 would be great for motorsport, but will hurt your economy a bit if you drive on freeways alot.

Suspension, I'd change your front setup to a RA60 strut setup, to allow safely for bigger brakes, I'd go coilover front, and normal shock spring setup rear, but what shocks and spring rates I'd choose im not to sure. Deffinatelly find dampener adjustable shocks though, really worth the extra money for setting up your ride, and for softening it for daily driving so it's more comfortable.
(budget around $2000)

Brakes, big brake upgrade, if you intend on racing, hills runs etc, your going to need it. Something like a Nissan 4 pot caliper, or FD caliper would be good, with as bigger rotor you can get to keep it all fitting under your new rims.

For the rears, a JDM disc setup, or corona rear disc setup should have you covered until you get serious about racing.

With all this your going to need to upgrade your master cylinder, and get some new lines made up.

I'd also be getting a brake bias adjuster, relatively inexpensive, and will help make sure your setup is working right.

(budget $1500ish!)

Obviously everything comes down to taste, and you really need to decide what your going to be using the car for before you throw money at it.

This is just a rough guide of what i'd do in your case, aiming at all motorsport mods.

Do your research and shop around. Have fun!

Thanks mate, big help.

I supose I don't really need advice on what parts etc. Just wanted to see other people opinions on what's needed to set-up a car for daily/hill runs/grip, to see whether there was anything major I missed that would be beneficial.
