View Full Version : ghetto bead seating

fitter gave up after like 1 go, refused me entrance into the shop to assist

he gladly left the tyres on though

so what can i do from here? i had a good go at the aerosol method but the flyspray i was using just ended up pooling in the tyre and causing a flaming inferno.

accepting all ghetto suggestions, tyres are shit so i'm not fussy, just want seated beads.

p.s Matt this is all your fault, sif you would go to TAFE

i should add i'm just impatient and want to try something tomorrow as the front end is looking very sweet at present it just needs rear rims to finish the deal.

At work, we have something called 'Rim Ease' its a watery lubricant subtance that you paint on the bead and the wheel.. After a minute if becomes slightly sticky and holds air and pops the bead easily enough..

You were right to warm up the wall but you may need a more effective way than the Spray Can and lighter method..

We also have a 40.40 at work which uses multiple nozzles to inject air all the way around the wheels on the bottom bead..

Just some things you might wanna look for/try if its that much of a problem. You should really try around and see if anyone can help you though, I mean just try any store you can find and get them to have a go.. Sooner or later someone will get it..

Good luck Gilly and hope I was some help atleast, Dillon

no experience with skinny tyres on big rims but here we keep on pumping them till it pops on... 100PSI does it :P

yeah 100psi will do it, but the problem is getting the bead to the rim seat in the first place.

find a tyre shop with a 'magic ring', similar idea to the 40.40 machines that jet air in to seat the tyre.

basically a large hollow ring with holes in it, attach compressed air to it and it'll jet enough air in to the rim channel to seat 185 on to a 9" rim no probs

you could do it the Risky Motion way lol

any kind of flammable gas + match.

that was at the last drift comp at barbagallo when my s13 needed more tyres :P

Beserker99 filming, Matt-AE86 setting fire to shit :P

thats the last resort when you cant get it to pump up with air compressor. or when you're feeling destructive

PS: fly spray is no good as its not really a gas....deodorant, aeroguard etc is good

Ive got to say it works really well with stretching 175/185's onto 7+ inch rims. Export paint gas seems to be wicked for it and also have a long pole with a small bit of rag wrapped on it and fuel and light it, kinda like an indiana jones torch. Shuv that in the ground, spray your gas in there reach out and put hte flames there. Wonderful pop on explosions.

If you stretch on a small tyre to a very wide rim it can sometimes pop off agian so get the air ready to pump it up and secure it.

Then you are on your way to SMOKOMAN TORUUUUUUUUUUUUU!
