There are two people on this website that claim to have done this with reasonable results.
Search the tech articles & you will find...
For what it's worth, I have just done this conversion to my 16v with less than acceptable results. My mixtures are all over the shop, I can only presume the map sensor is recieving inconsistant vacuum signals. Therefore the ecu cannot accurately sense the true engine load, & the fuel metering is terrible (especially at constant throttle).
I'm not claiming it can't be done, but it didn't work for me. I've just bought an Adaptronic & have started wiring it up. I didn't make a proper vacuum resevoir, I just made a 4-2-1 tubing system from each runner back to the map sensor. Not sure if it makes a huge difference, but mine is plain undrivable - I can't see a vacuum chamber making all the difference.
Good luck.

yer after market ecu i reckon
sure it might be possible, "mattyshop" has a nice article about it in tech articles
but seems like alot of stuffing around
just spend the extra on an aftermarket ecu, and you will not only be able to run quads, but also gain a few more horsepower's from getting a nice tune
its all more money though:(

If your gonna do quads. You'll probably want to eventually do cams ect, ect.
If you have the money plan your engine build and do every thing you want at once. Then go get it all tunned. Other wise you'll constanly be going to get it dyno tunned after every upgrade.

how much did you pay for your Adaptronic?
did it come with a loom?

ecu was r.r.p. ($990). The long loom is $99 which I am wiring up with plugs now.. I'm a bit confused about the dizzy wiring so I might leave that for the guy at the shop, he just suggested I go as far as I can with it & he will finish it. The injectors, TPS, air & water temp wiring is simple....

im just about to buy my own adaptronic for this mod, got cam gears, 308 duration cams, fully ported n polished, hks valve springs, n such, was told cant run on stock ecu as map reading will be way out,
Skit, did u buy direct or through one of their distributors???, and also, can the adaptronic run coil packs rather than the dizzy????

I bought through a distributor near where I live. Apparently Andy (who designed the ecu) does his testing with this guy, so I'm pretty happy that he seems to know them back to front.
I believe the adaptronic is very configurable regarding types of inputs/outputs you can run. Don't quote me on it, but I am sure it would run coil packs fine, at least twin coil packs in wasted spark setup, if not 4-coils.
I will just be sticking to my single coil though, in the interest of keeping costs down.

skit, thanks man, also with adaptronic and sticking with the dizzy, u doubling up the dizzy as a CAS, i reckon adaptronic are good value for money, as they are a closed loop system, there have good tuning capabilities

Any chance of anyone re-instating the photos on the mattyshop article? I'd like to see it.

I'll second that, would like to see how similar my job was to Mattyshop's.
drftr86, yeah the adaptronic seems like good value, one day I will put up the details of my car in member's rides when it's done. At the end of the day, an N/A 4a-ge doesn't require an advanced ecu to run well, just a good tuner.

I used to have a gen 2 map sensored 3sge with 20v quads running stock ecu with an safc 2 and a vacuum canistor, (happened to get all the items together at the right price at the right time). Ran perfectly fine. Probably not the best tune for max performance, but it did the job.
