gday,

its a hard question for me but simple for some i imagine. I was led to believe i could use my existing mannifolds and exhaust for a GE changeover in my 86... I was rudely astonished to see for myself upon the arrival of my motor that this was far from the case. Save the insults - we all make [stoopid] mistakes.

Now just how much can i salvage here? im guessing none, but hoping for more. Any word up? What can i do? am i foced to track down a mannifold and total exhaust system or buy new now??? Argh - just at xmas too!

all ull need is the 4age exhaust manifold and a flange welded on to the old pipe so u can use the old exhaust pipe

thats what i wanted to hear mate. cheers!
Any ideas wher i might find a mannifold? i tried AJPS and Toyo weckers and a couple of import places, no luck. i posted in the WTB section. What does one typically pay for such a desired item?
much apprciated mate.

not quite, the exhaust manifolds are on opposite sides, so you need to extend the pipe quite a bit, not to mention the pipe will be too small, and very rusty, you will blow holes in it in no time.

i salvaged the hangers off mine, the rest i threw away. just get a new system, wont cost all that much more than having someone try to weld new steel to 25 year old rust.

Yeh this was what made me poo myself in shock, shame and anger.

So what i need to do is track a RWD GE mannifold down, [Can i brutalise a FWD mannifold if i have no luck findin RWD?]
and once i have the mannifold, i just need similar exhaust piping from a wrecker, or get a system made? My motive here is just to 'get it running' and on the road until i can afford a full Extractor system and proper exhaust to suit. So the least i spend now [like always..] the better!

Cheers guys

you might be able to get a FWD to fit but it will be very ugly.

RWD manifolds arent that easy to get, depends on what people have lying around, just get what you can for a manifold and go from there.

try to do it fairly right the first time, will be better in the long run

V-Tec has one, has both upper and lower sections, heaps cheaper than buying extractors

If you can manage to graft it onto some of your 4AC exhaust somewhere along the way and it is simple for you to arrange, it will run fine. I put a 4AGE into the wife's old AE82 and did this and it was great. Obviously there are no issues with location in an AE82 however. But it won't damage the engine or anything.

All gets down to how financial you are and whether the existing pipe is in reasonable condition.

Clearly a new system is a much better option, but you could get by till finances allow.

Yeah, I was going to say that you could reuse the rear of the old section, basically from where it crosses over to the passenger side of the floorpan.

Brutalising a FWD manifold may be an option, but would be lots of work/money if you aren't confident doing it yourself.

Easiest option is just 4 pipes up through the bonnet top-fueller style. Legal in some states....... of the former USSR.

'hypothetically speaking' - i have a standard mannifold.
NOW - i just want to 'get it running' and outta my mates shed
Anyone know a cheap CHEAP place in SA or option in terms of an exhaust?
or anyone wanna lend a hand or let me borrow/buy a system?
Currently i have a 4AC system, but needs to make way for GE
Just want the cheapest and easiest option here.
Someone suggested using similar diameter exhaust from another vehicle from wrecker?

Cheers people
