Depends if your on state award or ETU (union).

State award will have you pulling in about $270 after tax for a standard week. ETU will have you getting about $330.

Heres some info, id highly recommend finding an employer who will pay you ETU awrd.

http://www.etu.asn.au/members/apprenticesinfo.html

Oh and domestic work sucks, find some commercial or industrial work, especially if you want some decent overtime hours

you'd expect good money for that considering its a selective field. id like that much.

as for bein a first yr and wages associated, it not the actual apprenticeship u need to worry about, its how much ull make being qaulified in that trade, for example say ur a motor mechanic and work for holden, bein a tradey for 2 yrs, ull be lucky to see $700-800, where as if u go for a specialist shop ull get more, but the key is to get as many tickets as u can, like aircon and pink slips. but dont get into a specialist shop like i did, i started my apprenticeship woth rigolis, now im fucked. i can build one hell of a subaru but i have only just com[leted my first vt service today.

think about ur future not what u make now

once u turn 21 u go to adult apprenticeship, not as bad

ive done the same thing, was doing gaylord dull factory work n now started up an apprenticeship and getting less, but if ya like the job then ya do more hours and ya dont get too bad of pay, and its a panel beater too, soo good when u have drift cars haha

I remember when I started my apprenticeship which was almost 20 years ago. I know I am old but still have the same Sprinter my wife had as her second car which I am rebuilding. Anyway I almost quit my mechanical apprentiship due to the shit money but I stuck with it. But if you take any advise from anyone take it from me. Your apprenticeship will be the most important thing you will do. I am out of the trade now but without it I would not have the job that I have now. A trade was a prerequisite in getting a start in the oil and gas industry. I Don't usally talk about money but I earn a lot of money now - more than 4 times what I earnt as a tradesman. Stick with it or if you have an opportunity to get a trade do it. You won't look back. It can take you places you would not think possible

Cheers

Dont become a Apprentice Race tech.
V8 supercar teams will expect you to work near on 50 hour weeks for a steady 230 a week fro your first year and 300 for your second

I work for a big budgeted private race team 2nd year app (fully qualified, just needed to compleate a app so i can have my trade certifacation)
Work for about 8 bux a hour and Im 21.

First year = $12/h
Second = $15/h
Third = $18/h

fourth year im expecting at least $21/h and a company car.
Thats for a shopfitter/glazier. Im doing two apprenticeships so i'll get dual trade certificates

Whatever you do,no matter what occupation dont fuck about/bludge and do nothing. Always seem interested and you'll go along way.

make sure you have a good boss, is all i can say, and don't bother with a dealership or something big...

get someone who will teach you one on one, and tell them to explain to you again if you don't understand!

i started getting $212/wk..but now am getting above 600 2.5 yrs later :)

but not that im expeected to work for free, but im there most weekends, generally tidying up and making the place look nice, im usually the first one there to serve customers in the morning and the last to leave...
