theres plenty of info out there mate, most of it is on toymods i believe.
first you need to decide which engine you are using as your donor, i believe some have better bolt allocations for the rwd mounts.
Then you need to decide how you are going to do inlet, custom, cut and shut, etc.
If you get the right block, i believe its 2s mounts that are a good start but need modifying, nothing too hard. Im pretty sure the big advantage to the beams stuff is the dli setup meaning no dissy. Outside that i think you can source the bottom sump section to get the engine on the right lean and having a sump that works.
I think its the 2s bellhousing to mate to w series box's.
thats all i got right now mate :)

I reckon 3SGTE AE86 is possibly Australia's most common unfinished project.
There is a bunch of info around, check especially Toymods, including the old forums. There are a number of RWD 3S conversions, which should cover most of what is needed.

It all comes down to budget. If you have the money, some of the bigger probs can be solved nicely.
ie, ST215 caldina motor, which has :no CAS, coil on plug, 2 piece sump with crank trigger indent. This oil pump allows you to bolt on a beams sump and pickup. then buy a clutch kit for beams as well, as this has the bearing in the flywheel, and the ring gear teeth the right way around and allows hassle free W gearbox attachment. MR2 alternator, bracket and crank pulley. Not too hard to find on a dead Gen 2 SW20 motor.
Apart from manifolds and a modified rear water housing you now have pretty much a bolt in motor. It has probably cost you about $4000 to get to this point though. over a quarter of that is on a very nice clutch and flywheel though. To get a ZE to the same point would cost about $2600 (same standard of clutch, coils on plug, alt probs sorted) and they would both need manifolds and a turbo.

After careful consideration, I've decided to go with a 4AGZE.
If your reading this and thinking about a 3SGTE conversion and can't find parts,
PM MEDWIN from the link above. He can make most, if not all custom 3SGTE
parts to suit 86 conversion! And will sell them to you!
