Has anyone weighed the sound deadening removed from an 86? I'm talking about the tar shit by itself, not including carpet and trim etc.

Thanks guys. I figure the the weight of the bracing I want to fit can be compensated by the sound deadening removal..

Bring on the dry ice!

Can't wait to build a screamer, leave the sound deadening in it and laugh to myself as I overtake the dori doris who are slowly going deaf from lack of sound deadening...

I've never removed mine. I don't care to either. Not much of a difference.

Only, they'll have the edge on you with their slightly lighter cars

Hearing is overated, add as much lightness as you can I say (well, Chapman said.) :2thumbs:

worth noting an 86 has more deadening than a 70

seeing as an 86 is a hatch Toyota lined the boot floor with deadening tar. as the 70 has the boot seperated from the cabin it was not warranted and therefore 70's have no deadening in that area.

i stripped my first ke and thought it made a small difference, put a cage in it and it became awesome, then my tan one i left all the shit in there and the cage, and it was a pig, wouldn't do anything for no body. Like a lazy mexican, then i stripped it and the wild beast i fell in love with was back.

Take note i have been drinking.

the way i look at it is on a 1000kg car if you take the sound deadening+ spare tyre+ other heavy things around the car out it would have to be about 100kg worth of stuff in there, and 100kg out of a 1000kg car is 10%, surely you would be able to notice the 10% less weight in the car? mind you i am keeping my sound deadening and carpet :P

the people who go on about sound deadening being loud are the ones who'v never removed it. unless u regularly drive over gravel roads with ur windows up and no music and are SPECIFICALLY LISTENING FOR A DIFFERENCE you wuldnt even notice. <<thats not exaggeration either. it makes the car minisculely louder and turns the passenger floor red hot. get a floor mat for ur passenger n wind down a window and u wont even notice.
other over exaggerated facts include button clutches being unusable on the street, lockers causing mass understeer and niteshades making ur tail lights unusable... tune in next week for more info ;)
