Hey guys
I know there is a topic called removing LCA's but i need some more specific information.
I need to know if its possible to remove the below steering arm from a ke70 off the two bolts running through it.
If i can how the hell do i do it as i can't get em to budge.
Just so you know i am trying to put some ae86 steering arms on so that i can bolt my new coilovers on.

don't hit down upon the thread of the balljoint
Use two hammers
Press one against one side of steering arm and hit with the other hard a few times
On opposite sides of the tapered area (balljoint)
Easier to do when still in the car
Might need a mate or a vise to hold something
Have fun and try not to bruise the metal too much

Put the old nuts back on so it covers the thread and beat the fuck out of it. Done it many a time.
don't blame me if you hit fingers, hands or other bodily parts.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Just to clarify, i've got to hit one and two simultaneously and put the nut back on loosely to protect the thread.
If this is the case any handy tips for doing this on the number 3 side.

Will have a whack after work tommorrow and see how it goes.
Just as a side question if i wanted to buy new ball sockets to replace the old ones, how would i go about getting the old ones out and the new ones in??

hold control arm on floor lying on side
strike the side of the steering arm where the balljoint goes though, you have to hit it pretty hard and just right to unseize it

i put the steering arm in the vice (horizontal) and let the CA hang, then do the nut up so the top of the nut is about 3mm above the thread. Then bash the nut with a big hammer. Do the vice up real tight

I would but the only vice i have is a wood vice attached to a rickety table.
Sigh at non automotive family.

Bring it into my work. I don't have the proper puller tool here, but I do have the vice and big hammer as described. It will take 40 seconds to get off.

The two faces you need to hit are on the floor and facing towards you in the picture, like you are pinching the tapered section in between.
The force kind of squeezes the ball joint out of the arm
Make sense?!

When removing all tapers, don't hit the end of the thread (unless you are really pissed off and just want to take out some anger).
Lie it on something solid and hit the side of the steering arm. Balljoint taper will pop out.
Let me open paint...

Gah these things are gay.
Managed to get the LCA off but not before rooting the thread and making it impossible to do back up again.
Still can't get the other taper out...
Now i need to get a new ball joint or just a whole lca.
Will make a thread but if anyone has a pair of LCA's and a pair of Control arms can they let me know?

Do the vice up real tight[/b]This is what i did at my mates, but my vice is like yours (ie not really attached too well). I got two blocks of wood that were the same height - rest the steering arm on them, with the bolt facing up - put the nut on near the end of the thread, then one bang with the hammer will pop it out (maybe a few). I went out and brought a "ball joint puller" but that didnt do the job - took it to my mates house and he put it in the vice, hit it - done! had to redo it again later at home and did this and it worked a treat! From memory, the smaller one came away pretty easily with some beating. Good luck! :2thumbs:

Well i finally managed to work out the correct technique for it.
My right one came off with probable 2-3 hits with the hammer easy as.
Still need to source a left LCA and Tie rod arm as i don't trust my bodge job on the left one.
