Hey Guys!
First Post here at ae86dc...

it feels like I'm now more of a ae86 than a ta22 now...now that ive put (or putting in) a 4a-ge bigport MAP into my 22.

i have 1 question, that ive searched everywhere for! yet can't find still.

there are a few cars that came with a 4a 'block' in RWD setup..
in these cars...i need the bolts that mount to the engine (to buy them)

for the first four mounts on either side (both passenger / driver) to the belts..ive chosen to mount with in my 22'
so, i need to know from you guys:

Drivers side Thread Size (mm) Head Size (mm) Thread Length (mm)
1
2
3
4

Passenger side Thread Size (mm) Head Size (mm) Thread Length (mm)
1
2
3
4

i need these values (and what kind of strength they need to be)
can you guys please help me to get these...i know this is the place to look.

regards
Tim

hey man hows it goin welcome to ae86dc

i can't help you out with these numbers

but what i can help you out with is,

all 4a blocks are the same same weather they are FWD or RWD (this includes 4ac, 4afe and 4age, both 16V and 20V) (except late model 16V and 20V blocks have more ribs inside, but i don't belive they are any different on the outside)

so basically what this means, is that you can go to your wreckers and find a car that has a 4a engine in it (fwd cars include, lots of corollas, rwd is limited to an ae71 and a sprinter) and you can just take the bolts out of these engines!!

save buying them brand new, as bolts are free from my wreckers!

dave, thankyou so much for that quick response.

however, i knew all of that...but a FWD setup isnt going to have the bolds i need for the plates i made (coz these threads are all 10mm and 8mm)...and the fwd mounts are different to the rwd..(der!, lol)

so...realistically..i'd need any RWD car which came with a 4a in it.....right?
however, isnt it gonna change depending on what bolt holes the car in question used..
perhaps they mounted 2 holes differently to me ? :S

sorry about the shitty question

i don't think the holes u circled are for the engine mounts and i think they only have 3 bolts that hold the mounts on

on the drivers side (3 bolts)..
the bottom right one might be a alternator bracket bolt.
but i don't have the lower bracket either...which means that its gonna be used as an engine mount hole.

can any of u guys help me here?

heres something I prepared earlier:

keep in mind none of the standard brackets are left in place except for the engine mounts. For the bolts anything with a standard tensile rating of 8.8 is fine.

that looks fantastic sam

4 questions mate
1) what are the thread sizes and lengths for that side (and other if u know)?
2) i have that dirty pressure release + oil cooler prong on my oil filter, is that bracket cut out around the shape of that?
3) what engine mounts did u use for that? (i have EX 2T ones :P) are they 4a series?
4) what is that blue stuff everywhere!

thanks mate.

2) I need a pic

3) standard 4A series as you said

4) thats the result of my camera not liking the light coming from my LED torch in my no so well lit shed!

1) 25mm helps.....thankyou :)...i think the thread sizes are between 10mm, and 8mm..
so i think I'm unraveling the problem! :)

2) its just the standard oil cooler setup, just an oil outlet from the oil filer base to the side of the sump.

3) wish i had those before i started, lol

4) nice!

5) whens the next meet? ill come with JD

ok I measured it, I measured each one of the holes to be 22mm deep but I am assuming they have some crud in the bottom and I know that either way the bracket is more than 3mm thick. So 20mm might be the best in length but if you want to make extra sure then 25mm should fit fine.

It is an M10 with a 1.25mm pitch, this is common for toyota engines but not for the bolt industy. Normally M10 bolts have a standard pitch of 1.5mm or 1mm for the fine threaded bolts so sourcing something may be an issue. I recomend going to a self serve wrecker and grabbing something. I am sure many toyota engines would have what you want.

as for the next meet are you talking about in Vic? if so its e 16th and I think I will go

I've got a set of RWD 4age engine mounts and bolts if you want them, only problem is the bolts are mixed in with 1/2 a bucket of other bolts. I can send you all my 10x1.25 bolts and you can pick what ones work. PM me if interested.

very interested in your RWD engine mounts...
where r u located mate? (and ure bolts :))

lucky this is an engine conversation - otherwise could be abit rude...

do the engine mounts mount to the ta22 engine cross member?
