Hey Guys,
I just bought this 86 off the forums recently and it had a new 4.7 crown and pinion fitted
in a jap disc brake rear end. It was quet for the first 2 weeks but is now ridiculously loud.
I found out this this is the 3rd crown and pinion to be in it in a year for the same reason.
It has kaaz centre also and just a big port 4age in it.
It does get driven hard but sprinters i've owned in the past have all coped ok with only
ever a slight whine.
any ideas? warped centre? I don't know and it is getting undrivable
Cheers

^^^ I concur.
I found 20 year old centres from the wreckers would get whiney after being welded and thrashed for a track day. 3 centres in a year is way too many.
Get it checked out by a diff shop now. Your nice 4.7 ratio may already be rooted.

It was done by diff ethnics and I've had work done by them before and it has been very good.
It is also a brand new crown and pinion.

crap i think i have one of the other 4.7 sets that was pulled out of this car
sounds like a setup issue
or as you suggested there is another fault inthe centre itself but i would think that would be picked up when gears are being installed....

touge 205 had this problem, turned out to be a bearing that was sloppy in the pinion gear, and was changing the tolerance between the crownwheel. get it checked at a diff shop like the others have suggested.
