Hey ive got all the stuff ... just about to setup my 4a 16v with a multi coil direct fire ignition sytem..
running:
Haltec E8
LS1 coil packs.
I want to know what i need to use as a Trigger for crank position.
is their an sensor or something to place inside the standard dizzy?
for the Haltec Hall effect is meant to be the best because the ECU doesnt have to convert the signal.
can i replace the stock dizzy with a GZE crank angle sensor?
just wanting to hear from the boys who have done it on tha 16v before or anyone in the know.. i called haltec and they couldnt really tell me much.
cheers

A good ECU should be able to use the 4A-GE standard crank angle sensors, just with software configeration. I am not sure if the Haltech can use this or not. Just ask Haltech if it can use a stock Toyota magnetic pickup. Some ECUs can use the stock pickup, but need a tooth filed off, but I have avoided doing that.
If you want to change to a Hall effect sensor, then there is no use going to the 4A-GZE unit as it is exactly the same as the smallport 4A-GE as far as I know.

thanks Jonny, so is the GZE and small port 4age CAS the same a BIG port?
i dont want to go to Hall effect, i just really want to know what the easiest and most effective way to get a trigger signal to the ECU...
SMall/BIG port 4age CAS is inside the dizzy right? so what do u do with the rest of the dizzy?
if that was the case the GZE CAS would look alot neater in the engine bay.

From my understanding the 4A-GZE CAS is just a lot neater, but works the same. The bigport one is not identical, but probably works the same.

i found a thread on toy mods which explains alot.. i guess if i just use the big port dizzy ill just have to seal it somehow.. hmm nice billet cap :)

To run any multi coil setup you need two triggers,
one to signal degree's of rotation,
which on toyota's is usualy 24 tooth, in the bottom of the 4AGE dist's,
and you also need a TDC pulse, which is one pulse per 720 deg of crank rotation, so it knows which is cylinder number 1.
So take a cap off a 4age or 4agze dist and have a look.
If there are 4 teeth on the top sensor, it cant run multi coil.
If it only has one it will run multi coil.
I know early bigport are 4 teeth,
Smallport and GZE are all one tooth,
and the one's in between i am not sure,
but it's easy to tell.
You can file off 3 teeth, but need to do the right 3.
