After being stalled with my project for so long, I became weak and purchased another AE86 to drive while the other was completed.

So after a long trip up from the Gold Coast, it finally sat in the driveway.
http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/02-Blue86Front.jpg

First order of business was to remove the locked diff for road worthy.
http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/04-DiffOut2.jpg

Then clean up the engine bay wiring, restrain the pod and put in a new battery.
http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/05-FrontStrutBrace.jpg

I had some crappy offset rims that no one wanted to buy off me, so I put them to good use.
http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/06-Rims.jpg

And then went off to get some plates.

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/10-FrontEnd.jpg

I got in touch with Steve, one of the only other AE86 drivers in the area and we went for a cruise.

Here's some videos of the "action", hah.
Part 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZKTQn8RseU)
Part 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjVx-qUHqZI)

On the way back from that trip however, the locked diff came back to bite me.
http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/18-FuckedDiff.jpg

There was some weld slag still hiding in the axle tubes that came free and jamed up the gears.
http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/19-Culprit.jpg

Once it was back together I resumed my exploration of the backroads.
http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/20-Amused.jpg

After getting used to it all, I put some nice comfy SW20 seats in.
http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/21-MR2Seats.jpg

A localÂÂÂ#annual cruise event was organised, so I went along too.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/165653.jpg

Steve was out of town, so we had our own little cruise the week after.
http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/22-Roadside.jpg

The weather wasn't quite as nice.
http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/23-QuaidsLake.jpg

Good for pictures!

That's so fat!

It looked mean in my rear vision mirror. Sounds mean too. Couldn't hear my own car when you overtook me, and that's saying something!
Flat out its also a tad quicker than my weighed-down with luxuries and floor rubbish coupe. Handles the rougher roads better too with the softer springs.

Yeah, it's got some dings in the passenger side and a spot of rust under the rear bumper. Doesnt really bother me, but once the main project is done I'll touch this one up.

I don't want to spend much money on this one as I need it to finish my other one... but eventually I would like to put a T-Series & LSD in it.
The open diff is getting annoying and with all this rain we're having putting the locked diff back in would be unwise.

I got the car for $4900 and freighted it up to my door for $1100... Then all the costs involved with passing the RWC and getting Rego.

Just thought I'd update.

I had alittle too much fun couple of months back which resulted in this...

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/26-MudSlide.jpg
No, I didn't hit the tree...! But I got stuck in the ditch. :(
And because the car still has a standard s-series I couldn't get out as one wheel was off the ground! :angry2:
After about 5min the police turned up, towed me out - and sent me on my way... was abit of a shock, but I was thankfull none the less. :)

So anyway, this just made me want to go out n get a LSD more than ever.
And along with a drift day coming up soon here in Cairns I decided to go on a T-18 hunt!

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/27-T18.jpg
And successfully nabbed me this ugly duckling.

I then bought a zenki TRD 2-way to get me drifting (err... spinning out) like the pros! :)
While I was feeling productive I removed the bumpers to fix up the slightly bent mounts...

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/28-SprayingBumpers.jpg
And I gave em a new coat of black paint while I was at it.

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/29-Tseries.jpg
Then I moved on to taking the diff out of the T-18. That was a bastard of a job...
25years of dirt and oil baked onto the thing! The bolts DIDNT want to move.

The wheel bearings are rooted, one oil seal is gone and the condition of the drums was questionable.
So I took it in to get reconditioned on Monday. Final cost was pretty scary... and I still have to get some good oil (thinking Penrite)

Toyota T-18 $300.00
Renting Trailer $150.00
TRD 2-way LSD $473.20
Rebuilding diff $677.80
(Welding on mounts, replacing all axle seals and wheel/pinion bearings, removing open centre, shimming collapsible spacer, installing LSD centre)

TOTAL = $1601

So when you guys see a JDM disc brake rear end for sale at $1400, stop being tight and just buy the bloody thing!!!

My rebuilt T-Series from the T-18 (With added TRD 2-way LSD!)

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/31-LegsOut.jpg
Excuse me, do you know what you're doing under there?

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/32-Unbolting.jpg
Try not to touch your newly painted bumper bar!

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/33-ComeHere.jpg
*Scorpion voice* "Get Over Here!"

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/34-Success.jpg
The operation was a success! The open diff now seperated from Kor!

Had a couple of dramas. But nothing major.
One: swaybar mounts don't line up - so taking it back tomorrow to get one cut and re-welded.
Two: handbrake cables too long - I was freaking about this one for a while until I had a brain wave about 20min ago...
Now I've got a bunch of washers spacing out the adjusting nuts on the handbrake lever end to effectively pull tight(er) on the cable!
Three: I suck at bleeding brakes!

PS. anyone know exactly how much oil a T-Series takes?
I just filled it up till it started coming back out - but I was on a incline so I think more than nessacary went in...

Nice build up man, enjoyed reading it, kept me entertained for a bit! :P

And when I filled up my S-Series (might be the same) it took around 1.5 litres.
The oil is supposed to sit just on the edge of the filling bolt thread when level, so you might have a tad to much in?

Went to my very first drift day yesterday... which subsuquently was the very first public drift day in Cairns!

Was heaps of fun... Learnt that it's a good idea to get used to having a LSD before trying to drift! Cos damn I sucked! :D

Hopefully there are many more of these days to come so I can get some practice in. :)

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/35-ReadyToGo.JPG
Lining up in the burnout pad with 9 other cars.

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/36-FirstCorner1.JPG
Getting right into it!

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/37-FirstCorner2.JPG
Keep it sideways! Go Go Go!

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/38-FirstCorner3.JPG
But try to stay off the dirt...

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/39-SBends.JPG
Coming into S-Bends with tyre walls and spectators all around you is alittle freaky.

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/40-FinalCorner.JPG
The last corner was damn nice, long and wide!

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/41-SurroundedByTyres.JPG
And more tyre walls!

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/42-FinalCorner.JPG
Gotta love that last corner.

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/43-FlickIt.JPG
The rear end would flick back quite a bit... I'm thinking it's cos I couldn't get the swaybar installed in time. :(

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/44-FinalCorner.JPG
Again that awesome last corner.

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/45-FirstCornerBackwards.JPG
Since it was only 1 car at a time, we reversed the track everytime we spun out. :P (Bonus lap, GET!)

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/46-SlideIt.JPG
Ah... love the amount of smoke that a NA hachi can make...

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/47-BackwardsStraight.JPG
Could keep it sideways down this straight (If you werent afraid of going nose first into tyres!)

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/48-Rice.JPG
Since I didn't have any bling wheels or sick bodykit I had to improvise. :)

Well, there you have it! Fun Fun Fun.
I'm gonna get that rear swaybar fitted asap and install my camber plates to get that extra neg camber.
Also think I'll buy some new, wider rims/tyres (Plus some spacers for the skid rims :P)

Here's the video that Steve (TruenoCoupe) took of my runs all put together with some music.
Yes I know I look like a retard flapping my hands around so much, it's something I gotta work on.

Next time I'll try actually drifting instead of sliding out of corners. :P Early days, early days. :)

Went for another thrash around with Steve today. Good opportunity to test out my new wheel allignment.

This is the start of a REALLY nice piece of road out in the middle of nowhere.
We did take some movies but they didn't turn out very well.

http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/51-LightningThunder.jpg

When we were looking for places to stop and take pics, we saw this and just had to!
http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/52-RipItUpBoys.jpg

Was a bunch of skid marks in this carpark, but we didn't do any...
Just took photos until some bogans in Nissan Patrols laughed at us. :(
http://www.stain.id.au/blue86/53-BumsOut.jpg

The day was going pretty well until Steve ran over a nail and popped his tyre!
He was due for some new ones anyway, but it still sucked!

Today we got stuck into rebuilding the bottom end of my Smallport (since the head is still away getting work done on it. Port/Polish/Valve cut)
First off we unbolted everything and cleaned the block... came up pretty good. Stuck in a cylinder hone to clean up some surface rust.
Then out came all the nice new crankshaft bearings with some assembly lube... Finnally got out the torque wrench and bolted it all down. Fun fun!

http://stain.id.au/blue86/56-BlockCleaned.jpghttp://stain.id.au/blue86/57-CrankInstalled.jpg

After that we hit a snag when we were putting in all the new piston rings....
Checked the clearances after the hone first... everything was sweet... disaster struct when we went to put them on the pistons!
Bottom four... fine... Top one... TOO BIG! Seems I was sent the wrong piston ring kit cos that top one just doesnt go in.
So gonna have to do damage control there and head into Repco (shudder) hope they can get the correct rings.

Well we didnt let that stop us from soldiering on. Cleaned up the oil pump and rear oil seal housing... old gaskets are fun to get off.
Pushed out the seals, installed new ones, lubed them up and installed them.
After that I got my flywheel/clutch out of the box and realised it had been sitting too long in a humid environment so we cleaned that up before bolting it on too...

http://stain.id.au/blue86/58-RustyClutch.jpg

So once I get the right piston rings we'll get the entire bottom end put back together... then we're just waiting on the head (which pressure tested fine!)

Already found someone to tune it for me too. Exciting. :)
