This might be a bit of a dumb question but I tried fitting somr darker rear lights to my car and I find the original 5/21W or 21W globes just don't cut it. Is there a higher wattage globe available for these or another option all-together?

Parker globes maybe?

I can't remember if they are brighter or darker than the rear lights, probably darker in guessing.

LED's

You can also upgrade your gauge cluster with LED's

LED tails are actually quite a bit brighter than the standard bulbs.... IMHO

Led's are brighter when you put them on tail lights like above, but those led globes fail and just give one big bright spot.

Exactly. Seen them on redlines, was just one red dot, looked ghey and was not bright at all.

problem with LED;s is that they are really really really really REALLY!!! bright to look at, but they don't throw much light out

as opposed to normal incandescent bulbs, which can give out heaps of light, but its generally dull looking

one way go get around leds problem is to use lots of them, and fire them in all directions (like that replacement bulb a few posts up)

other option is to use what is called a super flux LED

http://img.alibaba.com/photo/50785303/3mm_super_flux_led_white_.jpg

the advantage of these is that they have a viewing angle of about 75-80 degrees, rather than your standard LED has about 15 degrees (most LED tail lights you see use these 15 degree ones, and you just see a bunch of red spots, cool for trucks and busses as they are very bright, look pretty silly (no offence) on cars i reckon)

i bought a big packet of these off ebay once, back when i was a ricer i used about 2 in each foot well of my car, and they lit up like crazy, and thats only 2 tiny leds.

you need to figure out a way of using LED's in such a way that you don't actually see the LED (massive bright spot), you just see the light it throws out.

just somethin i thought was worth while mentioning

The difference isn't quite as dramatic, brightness-wise, as those pictures would suggest (seems they've overdone the color balance for marketing purposes). LEDs are definitely whiter, but not so much brighter. If you fix the color balance in those photos so they're more the same overall, you can see what I mean:

Or you COULD see what I mean, if forum attachments worked properly. >.<

Still looks pretty cool though, I reckon. Gives an AE86 dash a more new school look.

http://www.kustoms.com.au/catalogue/globes.html

Somewhere down that page he has 35W stop/tail light globes.
I remembered that site from ages ago when I had tinted lights, but I never actually bought off him so I have no idea if the globes are any good or anything about them.

My main concern with them would be globe life or if they melted the plastics of the tail light or the wiring, which wouldn't be a problem with LEDs

35W rear lights sound good, I would be a bit worried about wrecking my rear lights though from the heat
