-see if it has drum brakes or disk brakes
-count the number of studs holding the carrier to the housing, 8 or 10
-see if it has a "LSD oil only" sticker on the back (probably fallen off)
-take the oil filler plug off and insert a camera like what doctors use

only way to know for sure is to take the axles out and the carrier off. Then measure the axles or count the splines (though the bearings will give it away if they're really wide - Kouki). Look at the diff centre and you'll be able to see if it's open or LSD. Or post a pic if you're not sure and someone will ID for you.

Not quite right sorry. The wide bearings mean disk brakes.

Jonny Rochester:

Robo86's diff (axles) have very wide bearings

Drum brake and it's definitely kouki

For all AE86 and AE85, both in Japan, Europe etc... there is no difference between early bearings and late model bearings. The T series drum brake versions have a normal bearing like a old Celica. The disk brake version has wide double row bearings.

What Robo86 has is modifyed by the sounds of it.

So i have a disk brake t-series with 10 studs holding the carrier to the housing. What does that mean it was originally out of?

It did have a "Lsd oil only" sticker aswell
