I need help!

I just recently, changed the water pump and back housing on my 4AGE RWD 16V. Everything went fine untill i turned it over.....
The engine seemed to start ok but there's this sucking type whining sound. It seems to be coming from around the T-VIS and quiete loud too. The sound stops when and during a rev but when in idle it starts again.

Can anyone help?

could be the throttle body screw that controls the idle level..maybs

Is it possiable that you used the wrong water pump combo, and the pump impeller is touching the housing?

^ This will whistle quite loudly when the idle steeper has been removed and blocked off as yours has.

this could be true, however is quite a severe case so maybe not. maybe something simple such as a throttle body gasket or inlet manifold gasket... these usually make suction sounds and is very possible. if not, maybe the pump has lots of air in it and will make a whirring sound if this is the case. good luck with it, cheers, jamie

I worked witht the throttle body and adjusted the revs.
Doesn't whistle as much but the revs seem poor now?

If that was the case it would change with engine revs..

Does the engine run any different to what it did before? Like a higher idle?

Poor in what way?? Too high or too low

poor in the sense that the revs response was quite low, and the idle sometimes changes between 800 rpm to around 1500rpm

Sounds like a vacuum leak.

Get some carby clean and the little straw that comes with some of them and spray it around the injectors (where they go into the head) intake gaskets etc. If theres a change in engine you have found your leak

Since you say you was working on the water pump i would start with looking at the TVIS as you state it coming from around that area. Idle bounce is usually associated with very dirty throttle body or a vacumm leak.

Honestly thou on a 4age throttle screws once its set right hardly ever needs to be touched again.

Check your vacumm lines associated with the TVIS. Quite possible a line was bumped or taken off with the water pump.

If all appears normal in that area its time to get in there and search around with a length of garden hose about 500mm long and find that noise.
