it's a ae71 auto weapon.
It only overheats after a decent stint on a freeway to a few sudden stop's. fine in heavy traffic, fine on the freeway itself, but only starts creeping up after around 30-40minutes plus on the freeway into heavy traffic. ohh, no heater core either, the system is just looped at the back of the block.
Damn thing has me stumped, will be running an acid based wash through in a couple of weekends and pulling the thermostat out and reverse flushing the block and radiator and all the normal thing's that you do, just curious if anyone has come accross this before and what could be causing it so I can direct my attention somewhere specific.
Cheers

had it before - thermostat stuck in slightly open position. On freeway engine nice and hot but water pump spinning nice and fast too - come to a stop and water pump slows and cannot pump sufficient via the partially open thermostat - well that was my scenario anywayGood luck.

maybe blocked radiator core from scale and old build up. get it pressure flushed? Heres a cheapo way I do at home - not as effective and bloody messy. Open up the block coolant drain. Garden hose down the top of radiator and blast away. Put your finger over the hole to create back pressure. Run like that untill its all clear water. Repeat few times. You can do that also by opening up different channels. e.g. outlet in the back to check if ur channels are not blocked.

had the same problem it was my thermostat. pulled it out and put it in a boiled pot of water and it opened up sweet f**k all.'
cleaned it but then 1week later came back so got another thermostat.
couldn't get a 4age small port one so got a 1.8ltr corolla and cut it down with tin snips lol
never had a problem with it and heats normally and when drifting is the only time i have to use the fan :)
