500kms out of a Tank of Shell V-Power racing in the subaru (which included doing a 30km section of "spirited driving" where I was on boost most of the time.

Check your oxygen sensor isn't fucked because they control your lean cruise.

I get 500-550 off of 45 litres, depending on where I drive. Its an AE111 engine in a 71 on an Adaptronic. If your running a standard ecu then you have a problem if your only getting 300ks to a tank.

380-450km out of a full tank for me. Depending on how hard I drive it and I usually drive it pretty hard. 16v Bigport, trd 4-2-1 and a basic 2 1/4".

And mine just has a pod filter aswell.

Is it blowing a lot of black smoke? Pull out your spark plugs and check the tip, to see what colour they are. black and sooty= too rich.

16V, only mods are jdm ecu, extractors, pod filter. BP Ultimate = 450ish all Highway, 300ish Highway and fanging.

well ive got an early bluetop stock std right down to the airbox and long trumpet thingy, Maf sensor style tvis and all, and i get aboot 500 kays on v-power, every fill.

slydar
13th April 2008, 09:42 AM
it is almost completely dependant on driving style. also, the o2 sensor on a big port, does pretty much nothing. the big port ecu only runs closed loop when youre on constant throttle/load, which is pretty much just highway cruising.

if you want it to run more efficient, have your injectors cleaned, do an oil change, check your belts, have the timing set properly, check you tire pressure and make sure your cooling system is working correctly (i.e it gets up to correct operating temp quickly, and stays there).

that is pretty much it.

having said all the, my last car, which ran JDM big port set up, and was in good working order with most of the above done, i get just on 300ks typically. on 98. i have found with v power i might get a little better response, but not as good economy. new vortex is the best for L/km and performance is good too. ultimate good, shell sux. (maybe for power with something with prog' ecu its worth it, but not for stock set ups)

Shit, is that all people are getting? I haven't driven mine yet, still in the conversion process. Hmm... is the tank really small or something, like only 40litres?? I'm guessing it couldn't be 50litres, cos getting around 380-420 on 50 litres would be using more fuel than a V8 soarer!

50L tank in AE86s.

I'm getting 600km+a little.

i get around 450km to a tank. thats big port + pace maker extractors + 2in exhaust + hacked hyundai air box (induction noise gives me the shits) and a greddy emanage that was tuned to the previous owners ae86. i actually got more fuel economy on a tune that didnt belong to my engine

That sounds a little more like it, on light throttle of course. But even still I would've expected such a light car with a small engine to at least get 450 on a heavy foot. My piece of crap 1.8L twin carb prelude weighs slightly more, bigger engine not to mention carbs, over 300k on the clock and still gets 600 per 50L tank, and around 450-500 driving hard.

Are most people who are getting around the 300 to 400 km's per tank running an after market ecu?

some people have 50L tanks in ae86's others like me have 40L tanks.

out of a 40L tank of BP ultimate i get 450km with a gze. i shift at 2500rpm and am in 5th gear before i hit 60km/h. i seem to be constantly in 5th gear unless I'm having a go. if i NEVER had a bit of a go i recon i could stretch it out to 500km a tank. if I'm constantly having a go i get aboit 400km.

all of this is town driving too, id probably get better with some highway.

My 4agze gets 350-400km per tank (A tank is 30L for me, always fill up at 1/4 tank). This is with caltex vortex98 or bp ultimate and a mixture of driving.

My 4age jdm bigport gets 300-350 for the same amount and same type of fuel. Ive been driving a lot of highway but its mainly to do with my o2 sensor :P

Me barge ass fully loaded UZ31 V8 soarer does 12km/L cruising on the highway, or about 8 thrashing it around... makes me wonder why I'm even bothering with the sprinter, lol.

Getting it into 5th by 60 wont save you any fuel, it will actually use more fuel,
In a higher gear it will pore in the fuel trying to get the car to move
Your better off letting it rev out a little more, with light throttle and staying in 4th at 60.

More revs doesnt always equal more use of fuel, how much you open up the throttle determines that.

However, if you're on a level or downward sloping road, having it in 5th, with the slightest of throttle to keep the car coasting will definitely save you more fuel.

Another of these threads...

My 4AC'd Sprinter averages 10L/100kms, highway driving gets that down to 7L/100kms

And that can be from some pretty harsh city/metro driving on a daily basis. Only costs me $25 per week to run in fuel, and thats on premium.

Standard 4AGE's should be doing the same, if not a bit better.
