I just received my new t seies diff and found that one of the 10 housing bolts is longer than the others and is to long for the carrier (pics). i'm thinking its maybe a jdm carrier with maybe t-18 diff in it?
Any ideas?
P.S sorry bout image size lol

I spoke to a mate and he rekons its the wrong diff, the longer bolt is there for a different casing to accomodate 4.11 gears ie bigger pinion?
I'll be pissed :verymad: if its like 3.7 or 3.9 cause i was told it had 4.11 gearing and he knew i was gonna go to 4.3 soon.
I'll have to pull it apart tonight and have a closer look.

Is that a S series centre? I thought T series have a different carrier housing. Ie both have same bolt spacing but T series has extra bit for longer bolt. Have a look at the pic in this thread:

and see in the top pic near bottom left the housing has 'extension' where the bolt goes?
Maybe someone has better pic and can correct me...

t series centre = 10 bolt
s series centre = 8 bolt

thought I was wrong, had my T18 diff too long.
In this thread http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/board/in...=3965&st=60 (http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/board/index.php?showtopic=3965&st=60)
'Javal' describes a difference in celica and T18 diff centres regarding the long bolt.
I think this is closer to the problem?

correct, the celica housing has a longer stud in it, a mate of mine had the same problem, just swap it over with a stud from something else that fits, or leave it out if your really dodgy :2thumbs:

+1 to this ^^... I just grabbed one of the short studs out of my old s series and it was sweet... Celica diffs (commonly 4.1) seem have this wheras the t18 diff has the long one for some reason....
Count the teeth to figure out the gearing, its probably a 41 crown and 10 pinion making it 4.1 (not 4.11), these come out of plenty of celicas....

Best course of action, right here.

Yep as above, t18 and ra40 centre casings differ around that bolt.
Makes no difference just remove the long stud and fit another bolt the correct length.
Do fit a bolt though or you'll have oil leaking out your arse.
It doesnt mean that the ratio is any different from what you've been told/sold because the crownwheel and pinion can be interchanged between casings.

bolt from the bonnet hinge works good.
