20v head 16v bottom end.
Hey guys i no this is a real noob question.
But has it been done and is it worth doing?
How much more power gain is there and is a big job with lots of hassles?
Do you guys have any pics or is their any faq articles on it?
If anyone has done it please tell me if its worth doing?
Cheers

can be done but it normally isnt, this is because of the low cost of 20V's usually mean its cheaper to just swap the whole engine. The notable exception to this is if putting a 20V head onto a 4agze block for turbo applications. Even then people usually just put the 4agze pistons straight into the 20V engines, which fit straight in. For an actualy power increase with the 20V head thats a pretty long debate and unfortunetly theres no clear winner in that one.

depends which 16v you have. if you have a dig around the faq and also www.club4ag.com tech reference, you wouldn't need to ask this question.

basically, your question is too brief and so really what youre asking actually doesnt make sense.

hehehe

thats funny, a 16v is a 16v :)

but FYI smallport/20mm gudgeons

putting 20v head on 16v block.. i assume still the firewall issue.

yes cause of the dizzp so running coil packs would be needed

i just had a thought, if you use 20V head, you would need to use 20V pistons (with the 5 cutouts), and they have the 20mm gudgeon size, so youd need 20V conrods, which have the 42mm (think its 42, the larger of the 2 sizes) conrod bearings, so then youd need a smallport/20V crank. and therefore a small port/20V block to fit said crank in?

so your current bottom end couldnt be used anyway? (since you said you got big port, so 40mm and 18mm bearings/gudgeons)

unless the 42mm bearing sized crank fits in a bigport block.....

prolly just sell your 16V, save a few dollars, and buy a complete 20V then stick it in without opening it up

if you were doing it the other way around (16V head on 20V bottom end) then it prolly be worth it, if you had the individual parts sitting around (Stronger bottom end etc).

what makes you think its a stronger bottom end dave? unless your using a blacktop as an example

You could assume he means the 3-7 rib leap and the bigger bearing sizes Sam, not piston rod and crank structure. Much of a muchness strength wise.

No real point to putting the 20valve head on the 16 valve. The piston change is the killer.

ah yeah I read it back to front thinking he meant the 16V bottom end being stronger, but I just misread it.

I bet you could swap that head right over with those stock pistons, it would just become an interference engine

but like the guys have said, not worth the effort
