hey sup guys almost done with my motor transplant but i got no zorst .
i got extractors that came with the motor and thats bout it .. i was wondering what sizes are people using from extractor back as in how many inches etc ?
and also wats legal and not legal .. ?
i was told i need a flex pipe so my zorst wont snap, and obviously a cat aswell.
i was quoted bout 650 - 700 for a flex pipe, stainless steel high flow cat and a straight pipe (not legal lol) from there on which i
will be purchasing a ECV for it.
well any help would be appreciated and what and what not to use
cheers
peter . :greenbounce:

If your running a 4age, most people go for 2 inch, or 2 1/4 inch piping.
Do some searching, there is a fair bit written about this on the site, as well as exhaust system design for increased flow.

haven't done my exhaust yet but i would go hollow cat :P a resinator and a muffler then straight pipe hehe and the flex pipe is where they get you i would shop around to see if you really need one but if you do make sure they charge you no more than 10 bux an inch

I have 2 1/4inch off the bottom of stock headers, with a Cat, Resi and a straight pipe....VERY FREAKIN LOUD, i do have a muffler for the back, however it sounds shit....I'm probably going to swap the cat out for a muffler.....

A flex pipe is optional. Most cars pictured on this forum, and most RWD cars do not have a flex pipe.
A small detail:
All Toyota RWD cars have the "engine pipe" or exhaust after the manifold clamped to a gearbox bolt at the bellhousing. This effectively keeps the manifold stiff and stops it from cracking. The rest of the exhaust is on rubber mounts of course, and a flex pipe is not needed. But most aftermarket systems forget this clamp, and the extracters end up cracking.

thnx for the replies guys ..
so I'm kinda guessing this is what i shud be getting .. a high flow cat a resinator and a muffler right ?
but i kinda wanna ditch the muffler and run a straight pipe after the resinator cos i'll be having an ECV before or after
the cat just to make her a lil more quiet if the authorities decide to pull me over.
i want her loud but not TOO FREAKING LOUD lol !
and with piping sizes is 2 1/4" all the way resonable for a set-up ? advantages and disadv ..?
I'm thinking a 3" high flow cat and 2 1/4" from ECV all the way back including resinator ? is this stupid ?
if so what would be a resonable setup for me ?
sank you ! :2thumbs:

i don't see why people don't run a cat
just get a cat from a skyline or something
something big, commondore maybe
find one that has a hollow section through the middle, and the catalytic converting stuff around the outside, pretty much just a high flow cat.
i saw a dyno test once on cat in/cat out performance gains, think they got 1kw out of it max, bit of a waste considering the fine for not having one...

The reason people don't run a cat is because it makes the exhaust note sound amazing if the right mufflers are used.
for 700 bucks id just spend an extra 200 and buy a proper jap cat back system as they sound the best due to being tuned length.

buddyclub spec2 ftw
even comes with a silncer that improves midrange torque when in use
but only problem i think is that the racing straight thru exhaust are much thinner in metal then the normal cat-back system
dunno if it a good thing for lowered car
and my mate had no cat on his straight pipes.. you could literally hear every single groan coming out of the 20v :P

i think 700 is a bit rich for an exhaust mate. i booked mine in at a local exhaust shop and and getting a track exhaust 2 1/4 inch mandrel bent straight through twin pipes and a street exhaust 2 1/4 inch press bent with cat and muffler for $450. i'd shop aroud if i were u
