does the clutch fit the front splines on the input shaft and does your tailshaft fit the splines on the output shaft ? eg number of teeth

Yes, I think so.

Should do, may need to use a T-18 full tailshaft? I can't remember, it's been too long.

The clutch is on the drivers side too, so use the clutch hard line from the T-18 also.

Sorry to drag up an oldish thread, but I have just busted the t50 in my ae71, but I know where there is a t18 with a box still in it. What tail shaft set up do i need to install this box?

Will the t18 tail shaft front half bolt to the ae71 rear half? Or wil the t18 box happily mate to the ae71 tail shaft regardless?

Any help would be appreciated, cheers

AE71 tailshaft is one piece so you are going to have problems there and the AE71 tailshaft wont go into the t18 box either. You'll probably need to go to an S or T series diff and the corresponding rear half tailshaft in order to make it a bolt in affair.

That was my fear - I have the t series here, but i don't have the cash to install the lsd before I put it in, or the lower ratio. Bummer

Thanks for your help mate, I will keep an eye out for the right box then.

AE71(4a) tailshafts are two piece, KE70 (4K) shafts are one piece.

Maybe you will need the T18 front shaft, thats only if T18s have two piece items as well.

I think you'll find most AE71's had a 1 piece. They have a centre bearing and a middle uni joint but you can't physically unbolt two the halfs from each other like you can in an AE86 or TE72. Both my manual and auto AE71's had this arrangement.

I have taken out an AE71 tailshaft before but never bothered to check to see if it could come apart.

Cheers, I guess you learn something new everyday :)

KE70 ones DO come appart

but not in the usual fashion like ae86 and T18. (ae86/T18 having a flange with 4 small bolts, similar to the differential end)

there is an annoying bolt kinda inside the uni joint, kinda annoying to get undone need to sit there with a spanner and move the uni around a fair bit.

i tried a while ago to put an S series diff in with my K engine and box, tried to join a K series front, with a S diff rear half. i got them both appart, but the splines are different!! (i dismantled the uni joints on both and they matched up, but the splines are different)
