just go to supercheap and they have a book on what size filters fit. i always get the bigger ones.

i think 4a's take 2.2L of oil but I'm unsure because ive only had an ae86 in my posession long enough to do one oil change. everyone recomends royal purple or penrite sin

last time i put in HP10? which is penrite 10W50 semi synthetic i think,

i dunno it was cheap at the time,
but IMO 4a's being an older motor shouldn't drop from about a 50 weight at the top end
and the lower...i guess 10 - 15 can't be too bad for the motor.

i'm not sure what toyota recomend because i'm yet to see a 86 owners handbook... :|

peoples oppinions will differ so don't flame me....

I am changing my oil with Penrite HPR 20w60 on Wednesday.
Was going to get the Penrite 15w40 Sin but thought it would be a bit too thin.

Penrite's really good stuff,
Royal purple everyone says is excellent, but have no experience with it personally.
I use Motul in all my cars, and used to use them in my motocross bikes, one of which was a 4 stroke that revved to about 13,000rpm. It's french made so you know it's going to be pretty high end stuff, and I've never had a problem with it. After putting the full synthetic motul in my old jdm ae86 it revved freer and idled smoother than when it was running mobil 1.

Whatever you do, use synthetic. If you change the oil once every 2000kms it probably won't matter but most people do between 5000 and 10000. Synthetic takes much longer before it starts to break down.

many people on here will say they run a fully synthetic however I don't see the point of spending $50 on a container of sythetic when another set of piston rings costs $75 or so and the difference in wear and tear is only meant to be a few percent. Basicly my point is if two people started with new engines and on used semi synthetic and the other use synthetic then the first would have to rebuild his engine a little sooner but would have enough money to buy another two engines from the money he has saved.

By the way just a tip with searching, it possible to make 3 letter words work if you combine words with talking marks, like for example: "4age oil".

i use to use 20w50 as recommend for such an old motor, but drop to 10w40 semisyn and used 10w30 on a gze.
normally spend $20-30 for oil change on the 4age, i also noticed the 10w40 would burn oil? anyone else get the same problem?

i just swapped from using castrol edge 10w60 in my gze to a semisynthetic 15w50 or whatever the penrite one is.

it doesnt burn oil now and runs smoother in the cold.

Is Penrite 52-3O too thin for a 4age?

Ive been told the only place that stocks Royal Purple is PAC racing?

I saw someone today put a $3 bottle of "motor honey" in a motor. But because the turbo had already been bouncing around in the housing for a while I think we missed out on seeing the full benifit. Smoke was pouring out.

Oil is something you change, not something you spend heaps on.
