I have worked on a few Merlins, they are very nicely engineered and sound awesome when running ;)
as far as engine's I've worked on, old school NA rotors are very easy to work on.
Fav engine......hmmm Cosworth BDA, 26B/13G 4 rotor(but have never worked on these)

253 V8 !!! its my fav !! ..... jokes
B18C
Yeah.
as always, konakid speaks the truth.
b18c have an amazingly spread power and torque band... and the sound is great.... i should have never sold my DC2 !!
the next NA car i will buy will be somethign with a b18 or a k20.... once you have driven VTEC each day, no other NA engine compares for power and driveablity.

I think i know which one this was....
did an R-34 GT-T join in?
Frak
12th May 2009, 09:21 PM
Yeah but it had some major problems(R34) compared to last time we dynoed, I think it was pulling lots of timing out and thus torque was dramatically reduced(and hence power) were you at trade school? say hello! I did speak to a Metro's lad today, if it was you, top attitude.

Ahoy, that be I.
Yeah i heard the guys in the yard saying he was spewing about it, went all quiet after losing 25(?)kw over his last run or something.
Anyway i'll see you around the workshop or something.
Oh, on topic:
Favorite engine to work on - Holden 3.8L. EVERYTHING is easy.
Favorite engine i've driven a car with - 4AGE - Revvy, rorty with good power - just the right amount in an E7 for overall balance.
Most powerful engine i've driven a car with - LS1. 330kw ATW. Fuck.
Favorite engine i've never driven a car with -My 18R-G :hehe:

Whaa?
What dyno?
That is a very high reading, B18C's need larger cams + valvesprings + fully programmable ecu for around 130fwkw.
Considering they make around 110fwkw stock, with their excellent factory tuning, i would not hesitate to call that figure very unreliable.

Which is why the R34 was way down compared to last time on our unrealistically high reading dyno:rolleyes:
oh and the R33 GTS-T 4 door which we dynoed today that also put out stuff all, must only favour vtecs! damn racist dyno!

But.. I most like working on my old K motors, and my old school rotor as they're so damn simple

I don't really need to say anymore than that.
A 35fwkw gain for around 170 flywheel kw from a 1800cc motor from extractors, full exhaust, some agricultural tuning and an airfilter is a crock of shit. Especially considering honda's tune them factory for 95 octane, they have 2.25 inch mandrel bent exhausts factory and their exhaust/inlets are considered some of the best on any mass produced car in the world.
You said yourself, the 34 was having issues, and the 33 could have had a shit batch of fuel or another factor affecting its performance.
Have a look through this, you'll be unpleasantly surprised.

Most curious about 2az.
Most awesome Corolla conversion maybe Lotus spec 2zzgze in rwd.
Most laughs from driving so far maybe a 5 litre 99 hsv Maloo.
Most enjoy working on the 20 valves. Just such an easy layout to negotiate.
Motor Id like most to buy and build a car around, 2grfse.

well im a nissan boy and have owned a few CA's, SR's and RB's and i just looove the SR20! so many parts available, reasonably easy to work on for a turbo engine imo and an EPICCC amount of torque down low compared to the RB...!! i drove a CA for year, then an rb in a 32 for a bit and then SR and man the difference was amazing!!
although for a 2L i cant go past the sound of my current RB20 :o
