Hey guys + girls,

Quick question. Does the JDM and ADM T-50 AE86 gearbox have some number of splines?

Cheers

Aaron.

above is correct...plus the Late jap box internals are different to the early model ones...still same spline though

Thanks,

yeah i was curious, i "heard" the internals where stronger on the JDM box. Thought spline size may have been different.

Ic, ratios are different correct? Big difference is clutch slave on opposite sides.

no the main part of the gearbox is meant to be tottaly identical apart from that plastic speedo drive gear (because of the different diff ratio)

ratio's between adm and jdm are the same, they are the same strength, the difference IS the clutch slave on the drivers side, as it was built to run behind a cross flow motor with the exhaust exiting on the passengers side, and so the clutch slave was placed on the drivers side to keep it clear of the heat from the exhaust....

much in the same way that the adm bellhousing has the clutch slave on the passenger side being designed to run behind a non crossflow 4a with the exhaust exiting on the drivers side....

Makes valuable sense.

kouki jdm t50s have stronger syncros' in 1-2-3.. something like that, there is a slight internal difference, nothing really worth worrying about.

exactly as i was saying...i just didnt word it that way

can a adm be bolted on to a jdm ae86 with no modification..
If so can you list?

just a thought, but instead of saying JDM box this, and ADM box that. You could say, 4AC RWD gbox, and 4age rwd gearbox, would save all this shit, just a thought.

Damo, I think it would be the same as puttin a 4AGE box in an aussie delivered sprinter, fitted with a 4AC gbox, Just in reverse, Clutch line, and the bellhousings are larger on a GE box aren't they? not sure on that one but I'm sure you get the point

From Febuary 1986 onwards, 1st gear, 2nd gear and their syncros, hub and spring clips got new part numbers. And I assume the new parts are slightly modified from the old. As for being stronger, I doubt it. I expect it was a very slight revision just to make changing gear smoother. Unless someone has the different parts to compare, we will never know otherwise. I think the parts interchange, not that different.

I have a set of brand new syncros here in Toyota packets. I had ordered the older 1st and 2nd syncros.
