anyone have an idea of how much the stock rear tray weighs?
the thing that sits up held by the hatch and just covers the under compartment gives a flat look through rear window
thanks.

Its about 1.5Kgs in weight, its like a cardboard made out of chipboard. Which, after 25 years is pretty flimsy and useless.

don't bother with speakers... put a nice pair of 4' ones in the plastic section above the rear suspension towers...

trying to cut a 25yr old piece of chipboard aint gonnna work!

It doesn't, if you want 6x9s build a new parcel tray. I got a modular built with the same rails, so if I want to take it out, its just one plug to disconnect the speakers and pull the tray out. 25 year old chipboard sucks bad.

my first ae86 had the original one with 6x9's cut into it. worked fine. just gotta be slow when making the cuts, a stanley knife is better than a saw to use for this.

but y would u cut a perfectly good parcel tray? some people try to sell them for like $200bux!

make one up if u must but don't cut it up!

i don plan on cutting into it I'm just wondering the weight of one cause i plan on getting one imported

you'll find the weight will be less important than the dimensions on this item

because its a "bulky" item (large) the freight company will charge you for the average weight of an item that size as opposed to its actual weight. you will pay less for a 3 kg item that is the size of a shoebox than you will for a 3kg item the size of your parcel tray.

i.e i get charged $100 to send one of my fibreglass lips to the U.K and they weight 6kg (full bubble wrapped etc), however the average weight of an item with the same dimensions as the lip is 19kg so i get charged based on that. if the lips were the size of a shoebox i would be paying $55.

whoever you are using may not be like that but it is fairly common practice.

well my importer was asking for weight not dimensions for postage price so thats just what I'm going by champ

I would give your importer both, what Gilly has says is very true and used throughout the transport industry. But hey, if they want to charge for weight, consider yourself lucky ;)

its called cubic weight.

(m) height x width x depth x 250 = x kg.

here is a website to work it out for you (http://www.tasfast.com.au/cubic.html)

hey there, i'm a new member this is my first post too...yea!
i'm also interested in the parcel shelf, i've recently stepped upto my 86 from an ae82 and i'm absolutely loving it!!!!
problem is, my sprinter is missing the interior trim that bolts into the boot for the parcel shelf.....
anyone know where i can get them from?

Kepp an eye out in the for sale section mate, there are normally people getting rid of their old interiors, especially as a lot of 86s are stripped :D Not to mention our Site Sponsors area, they can get interior bits and pieces for you.

Else you could look at getting them imported from Japan, but I'm not sure what differences (if any) there are, let alone what sort of money they will ask
