After talking to a reputable source on the weekend I learnt soom pretty

interesting things about the 80's notch back sprinters in the Australian Touring Car Championship.

I had heard alot of dodgy things went on in the Nissan camp and the way they got through

scutineering hiding there boost controllers and the like.

However, The Toyota camp had some issues with oversteer in their 86's and the only way they

could combat this was to let the diff move around a bit but the 4 link prevented this and as it was

factory it couldn't be changed. The answer was to drill out 1 arm of the 4 link so to scrutineeing

it would have the 4 link in place and the driver would clip a ripple strip and snap the arm and be

back to a 3 link which allowed the rear end to give a bit and ultimatly make it faster and give better

tyre wear. There were other ways they created the 3 link but this was the most interesting I thought.

Hope that entertained some of you,

I'm goin to be the first to say i highly doubt they would snap one of the trailing arms. i could understand if they cut 2 because it would still be equal on either side but just one would throw out the rear end's geometry i think.
i could be wrong but i'l wait and see where this thread goes before i change my mind

i too have heard a variation of this.
its well known about the drilling of the shell-end upper left bushing, but i've heard they left the body end heim joint in the arm with the thread machined off and a rubber crush washer instead of a nut

its interesting stuff

The two that I have seen had two peices of tube that had a bush on one end. They slid in and out of each other kinda telescopically. pretty simple. but its one of those mods that you would only do to work around the rules. in real life there is better ways of doing it.

by the way, anyone who even thinks about doing it in a road car, think again
