hi all,

when it comes to motors i'm a nood.

anyhow, was driving my car around the other day.
when i burning oil, stopped and looked under the car to see
oil dripping onto the exhaust.
i think its leaking from somewhere at the back of the block.

when motor rev'd over 2,000RPM oil pressure skyrockets!
orido commented that it might be a failed oil pressure release valve or the oil pump itself?!

anyone shed some light?

cheers rhys,

well when i inspected the under neath, its apparent that the leak may of been there a while,
but now its seems its grown, as its all over the firewall and bellhousing, its orange-brown (oil has just been changed)
and smells like oil!

oh and its a 4AC.

Its a tricky one to diag. I need to be able to see it.

Hey,
When the car is in idle, the oil pressure is fine but once rev'd over 2,000 rpm the oil pressure sky rockets,
the oil seems to be leaking onto or out of the exhaust. I don't have any pics yet but will post some up tomorrow. The idle is now also quite jumpy. The oil is normal consistent colour, goldish, but the oil I am using is a thicker oil - I think it is 20-50.

any clues?

With what you have said it sounds like a f**ked rear main seal...

does that mean i have to take the head off to fix it?

First things first - you need to pinpoint where the oil is coming from. Get a couple of cans of degreaser, and go mad. Get it REALLY clean. Run the engine for a few minutes and have a look to see where the oil is coming from.

You say that it is on the exhaust - considering your exhaust runs the whole length of your car, it would be easier if you specified where... Also, is the oil dripping directly onto the exhaust, or is it being sprayed onto the firewall and then falling onto the exhaust?

If it is a rear main seal, you will have to take the whole motor out.

you don't need to take the motor out to do the rear main seal. When we did mine, we removed gearbox, clutch, flywheel, etc. Having high oil pressure seems like a relief valve problem

is it pissing out of just dripping when you stop the car, Ive got the same problem at the moment, my oil pressure has been ok but noticed it is going up now since I topped it up last

its not pissing out. i drove it for about 2-5mins then i started to smell burning oil...then smoke.
so i drove straight home. when i looked under the car, the oil was dripping into the exhaust and burning.
and well i drive or rev it over 2000rpm the oil pressure rockets up from low/mid to high!

Oil pressure valve is in the actual oil pump.

If your oil pressure is too high, the first thing to leak will probably be the oil filter. I have seen the oil filter gasket blow out the side. And I have seen a oil filter get bigger like a balloon then shoot off. In both cases the oil pressure releif valve had stuck closed.

At the very least, you will need to take the sump off. But you will probably have to take the whole oil pump off. You of course have to take the crank pully off first.

To get the oil pressure valve out you need to remove the internal circlip.

cheers fellas, sounds like a pain in the ass of a job.
i'll check over my oil filter.
i degreased the bay, and it looks to be leaking out of a hose/outlet at the back of the
block, in turn dripping on the the bellhousing and exhaust.
iwill be taking my car to the mechanics next week, i will ask how much it will cost.
will most probably end up doing myself. but will see what his verdict is.

cheers once again fellas.
