Maybe fabricating a adaptor plate by using the holes

I got pissed off at that article for the bullshit that was sprouted and all the crap that they didnt put into the budget. For example I give them credit for mentioning that theres water cooling kits available in the forums but they don't add it to the budget, or this supra box to 4a adaption, no we all know they cost nothing and even if it was possible to just bolt it on theres no material cost.

As for your question theres a picture on HR of an adapter plate, just redrilling some holes, they can keep dreaming.

A few friends here in Hobart use a W5X gearbox with a T50 belhousing. They have a custom 20mm thick aluminium adapter plate between the gearbox and the belhousing. They then need a 20mm spacer for the imputshaft bearing and a few other things like that. I am not a big fan of the setup. It is cheap I guess, but not if you count your time to make it and the 20mm thick alloy plate and other things to be milled and machined.

Jonny do you think there would be any issue with mounting the spigot bearing further outwards? I am guesssing a chunk of aluminium that size would be worth a shitload

I use said adaptor plate too, no dramas here

The guys I know work in industry where alloy and stainless plate are just found laying around. Spacers for the spigot bearing are used I think, but I can't remember the whole setup. The issues come down to the individual making this kit and how good he is at lining everything up. This is why I don't like the concept. If something breaks, it has to be custom made again. I would prefer a 'off the shelf' belhousing that I can just buy again if needed.

thats a very valid point you have there, because i am gussing if the alingment is a little off then it will still works but the front gearbox bearing wont last as long

its a big-ass solid bit of alloy, it isn't going to shit itself anytime soon

no other spigot spacers or anything required

it is simply

1) bolt adaptor to W box
2) bolt T50 bellhousing to adaptor
3) get *only* clutch splines modified to suit any supra 5-speed
4) bolt all T50 clutch fork/slave stuff up to it

then just make your gearbox crossmember and get a tailshaft made

simple as piss

same as TOXIN, except i use the spigot spacer.

No dramas yet either.

That's pretty much it .. W58, adaptor plate, T50 bellhousing, OS-giken twinplate clutch modded to suit, and a 3" tailshaft ... oh, and the shortest shifter known to man haha

do you have to cut the floor for the shifter

rthy
29th July 2008, 06:58 PM
no, there are 4 different shifter positions available for a W box, the W55 for one sits perfectly

the one i used (pictured) is one of the further back positions

it required approx 5cm of tunnel cut out, nothing major, i did it with tinsnips haha
