hey guys, I'm currently running an sr20 in my corolla its impossible to to handbrake into corners as the gear box sits quite a way back, and when in second its practically above the handbrake. any hints on what i can do to shorten the handbrake. i know its been done before. though i couldnt find any real help info on it. cheers

sorry to state the obvious...

but cut it 30mm shorter with a hacksaw?

or weld a "L" shaped bit on it, so its beside the gearstick rather than behind it?

I've seen people mount there handbrakes on an angle to overcome this. or use an rb20 box and the shifter will come up in standard position.

or, u can pull the lever out and put it back in back to front, feels a little weird 2 start with but u get used 2 it and it works.

I'm running a SR and I just did this and my handbrake clears the gearstick. It is close, but doesn't touch.

the shorter you make it the more effort that is required to lock the rears.

best method i to make a new handle, which is a Dog leg shape to clear the shifter.

if its only shortened 20-30mm i don't think the effort will be greatly increased.

cutting it down seems the easiest and quickest way, ill have to give it a try on the weekend.

trust me, it will make a difference, i had a CA in my old ae86, which had a CA box (same length as sr box) and shifter came way too close to handbrake. Cut the hand brake down around 35 mm and the handbrake from then on was really hard to get locked up while drifting on a track.
