Yeah I'm sure tein is. But they would have an engineer parked at the factory permanently making sure the stuff was made to spec. Not just buying out of a generic catalogue and choosing the colour of the anodising.

Research people. Don't make sweeping statements unless you can back them up with hard evidence...

This took me exactly 3 minutes <_<

ok, so you think that defines for a fact that theyre made in japan?

I'd bet most of the bottom models are made in china for sure. Most stuff is. My $3.5K camera is made in china. All the new Hondas sold in australia are made in Thailand. Same with most Toyotas now.

More than the above post, which is not even a genuine Tein site.

Anyway, if you'd read the link and associated and fairly detailed corporate history, the only mention of factories or plants are those that are all located within Japan.

To start my own rebuttle, they do list one of their activites as "Sales of imported automobile goods" and also one of their offices is in Taiwan, but I'd suggest that the "imported goods" are infact their own, that they import from Japan into the US etc and sell under their own brand. The Taiwan and Hong Kong offices are probably only presences to assist with sales in those regions, but I'm only guessing here.

Overall it doesn't matter shit anyway, as all their business units are certified ISO9001 (which requires strict quality control measures).

In japan the "Made in" tag may be more relaxed.

For example to be made in Australia it...

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
TRADE PRACTICES ACT 1974 - SECT 65AB
General test for country of origin representations

If:

a a corporation makes a representation as to the country of origin of goods; and

B the goods have been substantially transformed in that country; and

C 50% or more of the cost of producing or manufacturing the goods (as the case may be) is attributable to production or manufacturing processes that occurred in that country; and
..................[/b]

When you gointo detail it gets even more complicated than that...

So japan it may be a smaller percentile of the goods to manufactured there,
to be claimed made in Japan,

... how big do you think the hong kong market is? the road/vehicle modification laws there are insane, the office is to oversee manufacture for sure, not sales.

ill use it till it breaks and then buy more. i don't care who makes it or where its made, everything breaks in my hands i (and my father whos been telling me my whole life) will guarantee it.

nasa, a world leader in research, design, manufacture, testing and use of the most advanced technology can't make things that don't break or need repair.

using something that exceeds the limit of, or is used in time prolonged of what it was produced to will break.

Ull be surprised how many brands are no longer made in there orignal country. Labour is the most expensive component of most items. So if a country is giong to make it cheaper but then u have strict Quality control your company will still have the reputation. Hell i get my amusement equipment made in china now. 60% cheaper than if i buy it in the US and just as good.
Tein are excellent for the price. I still prefer my japanese suspension eg. GAB, keioffice but it also costs twice as much.

HONG KONG] TEIN HONG KONG LIMITED

Yup. I agree with slydar. In addition, top speed in Hong Kong is about 4 clicks due to traffic.

But as mentioned earlier, who cares if the quality is there?

Hope the quality is better then the address which is SHATIN. LOL!!

they do some custom orders,
but you need to find one in Japan,
to organise it.
(They don't do commercial amounts of custom units with this service either..)

Or call Fulcrum Suspension.

as has been previously said in here....

who cares if it was made in "china"....when you start production over there you can choose what quality, what metal etc YOU want....then those standards are upheld for the duration of the contract....

Anthony
29th July 2008, 06:33 PM
well those standards are upheld as long as you don't give the manufacturer any latitude to change them, because they will.

anyway, like i said obviously tein are experienced manufacturers who know how to get the quality they need. so rest easy :)

Please visit the actual website "All TEIN lowering springs and coilover are manufactured and assembled in our factory based in Yokohama, Japan" (http://www.tein.com/company_profile/tein_worldwide.html) and further more History of Tein (http://www.tein.com/company_profile/history_of_tein.html) for some clarification. The head office and production plants are still in Japan, but they do have other sites in USA, UK and Taiwan (these are primarily for distribution, sales, service and R&D). "All business units certified for ISO9001 International Standard for Quality Management."

Not sure what school of finance you studied, but as half the guys here work at HJ's or delivering pizza I dare say they don't quite understand why things are made in China, or why it is one of the greatest growing economies at present.

Kei-Office was rebranded as DG-5 when it was taken over by ORC back in 2005 (but still based in Japan and directed by Keiichi Tsuchiya).

GAB (http://www.gab.jp/top.html) looks like it is now run out of Malaysia (http://www.gabsuspension.com.my/)

Just do the right thing and get your standard struts coilovered by a reputable place. Most things are chinese made, just live with it. Yawn.

Honda only moved production very recently, shame about that, ohh and their americanised styling of the accord euro, fuck honda, its not a 'euro' anymore.

I'm almost 100% sure that Greedy get the majority of their stuff made in taiwan or the likes given the cheap as chips prices the stuff is fetching these days brand new, e.g intercooler kits.

What people need to understand is that there is a BIG difference in a long standing, heavily R&D focused, original companies that have proven their parts time and time again on both street and track for many years and some random grabbing some coilovers and copying them, getting them mass produced at the lowest possible cost by screwing down a shitty factory in chiwan and selling them as race products.

These companies, i.e D2, G4, K Sport, Racing Logic, ISC, HSD, D Project, Rota, OBX, JJR etc, etc, have sweet fuck all R&D, no motorsport involvement or testing yet all claim to be 'made for racing'.

741 comes through with the goods.

Speaking of OBX - don't know if I would taken seriously if I made that my company's slogan

HSD coilovers are manufactured in Korea.

tien will always be a quality product, no matter where its made.... the amount of testing they go through before they release a product is ridiculous, i saw a documentary on it once.

They test there coil overs for over 24 hours at 100 degrees hotter than you can ever get your coil over to reach on track etc to make sure there products don't fuck up while under pressure (the whole test time the shock is constantly at work)...
