EDIT: Refer to post 11
maybe someone can help diagnose my problems :(
go to take off in first gear, normal driveing,
slowly release clutch with minimal revs.
clutch out, press foot down am average amount on throttle,
engine free revs then "clunk" and the car goes. keeps free revving and clunking over and over on short periods of time a couple times then drives normal until gear change, or change in throttle amount(like deceleration"clunks again") in which the same thing happens
clunk seams to come from rear end of car, but guess it could be anything
the car is a ke70 with a 4k, 4 speed, standard diff with welded centre(was welded when car was bought so not sure of quality of welds)
can anyone help?

is there any forward motion before the clunk?

no motion? i would have a random point to the clutch. get someone to look under your car when u go to drive off. if your tailshaft doesnt turn after you let the clutch out you can rule out the diff.
either clutch or box might have some selector issues..

It can only be the gearbox, or the diff/axles etc.
Start pulling it apart. You will see the problem soon enough I'm sure.

lame,
guess i will have to
there is abit of forward motion before it clunks, and sometimes it doesnt actally clunk, but 90% of the time it will, if its just in a tsrtiaght line it seams to have less chance of doing it, but taking off around a corner like at the end of a t intersection it will do it.
the clunks can be very loud and doesnt appear to be comeing from the clutch area but yeah.
guess id better get my car stands back off my mate

took it for a hardish drive around the block coz it was wet,
easier to tell the difference between slip and one wheeler.
it pealed one wheelers then comeing into last corner of the 4 downshifteed and now does nothing
tailshaft still moves when its in gear n you can rev it and change gears and stuff
just diff is gone. n doesnt move

Put drum on the hub backwards, 2 nuts opposite each other, on only a couple of threads. Then use the drum as a slide hammer.

It will probably be easier just to replace the whole diff assembly complete than trying to setup a new centre in a borgwarner diff.
from what I understand it will be rediculously noisy unless setup 100% right.

well if i got a new complete diff id have to take the cente out to get it welded up anyway.
plus i can get a new locked centre for $30 changeover. so yeah.

Try draining the oil out of the diff first if it has metalflake or some lumpy bit`s drop out in the oil it`s your diff, from your description it sounds like you have done the planetary`s in your diff, if it was the crownwheel & pinion it would be "clunking" on a regular basis but yours sounds more random which usually means planetary`s. I hope this helps, cheers Mick.

Just get a whole new diff, ive heard removing borgy centres are a bitch to do and you can weld them with the centre still in no worries.

fair enough its a bitch, but still, id like to at least try to get it out?
is it fragile or can i belt the shit out of it?

Just belt the shit outta it.
There is a technique to it apparently. I've had to weld two of my mates borgie centres in the last week.
First one took him ages to get out but the second was like 20 mins.

got it out with a pole(hydro jack pole thingo)
put new one in,
was a bitch to get it without the shims falling out and the bearing caps falling off but once it was holding tapped it in with a hammer and axles went in without too much trouble
was pouring and our roof was getting hosed down by high pressure hoses, that plus rain was like working under my car in a river.
but got it done
glad i did instead of doing the whole diff,
how else will i learn.
also cheaper
seeing as a new diff would have cost at least 50, then to have it locked another 50
this was only 30 for a new locked centre.
