you don't. get a new one, they are $10ish and worth it new so as not to pull out your gearbox when you find that your old one is shagged...
6001 sealed I think is what you want.

Getting that little bugger of a bearing out is the trick. I've tried a number of methods, but finally resorted to making myself a slide hammer to get them out.

i smashed the shit out of it so there was just the race left and then used a dremmel to cut it

I've tried the grease +bolt and the wet paper+bolt but only managed to blow out the seal and the cage... Some say it works but it didn't for me. Slide hammer is the best bet I think...

Same. I know people that have made it work, but I couldn't manage it.

I found that mucking around a bearing manufactures just wasn't worth it, there are several different 6001 bearings and so you need to the get the right one. In the end I just went to toyota, asked for one. They could get me one quicker than any bearing place, and I knew for certain I had the right thing. The only downside was that it cost a little more.

Slidehammer from supercreeps around $23, use one of the round hook shaped attachments (needs a litle touch with the grinder first but it works first time), It is a good idea to take your old bearing with you to the bearing shop it saves a lot of time and aggravation.
cheers Mick.

PS. using the grease and bolt method only realy works on the old brass bushes found in old holdens, the tolerences with bearings are much tighter because a bit of brass can spin in the hole in the crank and it won`t damage the crank whereas the bearing is made from extremely hard material which if the outer race spins in the hole will damage the crankshaft.

Grease, paper mashie worked for me. damp the paper with water and shove it in there. Wait for it to dry up abit and keep shoving grease, paper etc. Then just pop the closes size bolt in there and it will pop out like magic. Thats the cheap arse way but it worked for me.
