Hey guys, I'm kinda new to the whole car scene, ive just acquired a corolla with a 20v silvertop conversion and I just have a couple of questions. If I was to replace the stock airbox with trumpets that have air filters on them, would i be gaining any more power from my engine? or will it just change the sound?

Depends. If it has a stock ECU in it, the car wont start again. You need the AFM to make it run.

If it has an aftermarket ECU, then you can do whatever you like, and a good tuner should be able to make a difference.

It has a Microtech LTX8 with bosch coil packs, the guys whos gonna tune it is specialised in 20v's, so i was wondering what a rough average of increase it would be?

the scene isnt really established enough to give you a meaningful estimate. if your tuner is a 20v "specialist" then he should be able to give you an idea.

i can tell you that kaizen garage have done a good number of 20vs, and the best power from any stock silver top was made using an airbox.

the engine also ran no thermostat, which is probably the real reason it made more power (lower engine temp) but i wouldn't expect huge gains from changing to velocity stacks. maybe around 5kw max. unless your tune to begin with wasnt so good..

ok then, it depends a lot on what you choose for your velocity stacks. I think that sprinters have a clearance issue with the brake booster, meaning that the longest trumpet you can physically fit in there (without making cool bendy ones) are about 70mm. I calculated that 165mm long trumpets are ideal (for my 16v), and the car was completely different when I fitted them and tuned the ECU to suit. All of a sudden, it had torque everywhere!

lol awesome, yeah it is a ae82, so I'm not sure what size or how big i can go with the trumpets. Also putting air filters on them would make them longer, so theres probably a good chance they wouldn't fit at all. So where abouts did you get yours from SpotterOne? and do you have air filters on them?

I made mine. Grab yourself some 10mm Ali plate, some 48mm ID Ali tube and start grinding! The filters I used are K&N ones that have a bellmouth inside them so I could use straight tube.

There was also someone on here selling baseplates for not too many dollars. Might be worth a look.

All up, they are very long. Not sure how they would go in FWD config, I don't know how far away the radiator is.

T3 also make 75mm long trumpets if space is an issue. You just bolt them up and put unifilter socks on them. I have a set of them at home that I replaced with the custom long ones.

Nice, yeah in the fwd config I'm fairly sure they will be facing the firewall, so I'm not too sure, how much are those T3 ones? i was looking into those, also will the K and N filter with the bellhousing fit onto those T3 stacks? i think i found that specific filter you were talking about last night while browsing, are they round $100 ea?

check ebay for the T3 trumpets. around $100 or so.

my girlfriend's Ae111 runs a set of these with unifilter socks pulled over them. definitiely more top end power and slightly better response than the std box, even with an otherwise std engine but they're not exactly quiet. ;)

If they face the firewall, you're going to be stuck for room a bit. I got mine direct from T3 in the States.

I'd sell them at the right price, but I don't mind if I don't - they look nice on my shelf. LOL

I couldn't find K&N's to fit over them, so I used Unifilters. P/No RP605/4

Hmm I'm interested, name your price, also reckon you could give us some measurements from the flange to the end of the filter? Ill check to see if they will actually fit lol

Dunno what they are worth. All I know is I paid US$180 + Postage for them about a year ago.

Not sure on the dimension - I don't have the filters anymore to measure them. I would work on 160cm or so from the flange base to the top of the filter. The filters themselves have a spring inside that is compressible, so you can squish them down a little bit if required.

You mean 160mm? Would you take $100.00 plus postage costs?

Hey guys another question, I'm about to order the trumpets from technotoytuning, and i need to know what size to order. They come in 47mm to 50mm at the base, which size to get for a stock 20v silvertop??
