i have an 86 with a T50 and an open diff.
i want to use Penrite 85W-140 for both gearbox and diff.
is it suitable for hard street use? (i change gear around 4000 at most of the time)
it's my daily ride, and i usually go hill running and do a little bit of sliding.

I was using Penrite SIN
80W-140
was nice and smooth, can't see why not
was using it for the same applications you are/would be

its not a gearbox oil its a hypoid gear oil. So its for diff's only.

it prob wont blow the gearbox up, but at the same time, its not designed for syncro's and gears that change constantly, so you could expect some accelerated wear.
Just use castrol VMX80 if your after a good manual gear oil on the cheap.

Seeing as it was gearbox oil
yes
mine was marginally different to the oil I think you're using
But viscosities are relatively the same
just use gearbox oil for your box and limslip for your diff

the 80W140 is NOT a gear oil.
As taken from the penrite website.

thats correct, some gear oils are designed for both, and other oils are designed for ONE or the OTHER. Basically it comes down to reading the lable before purchasing ;)
