Ive had a real sore throat since about Tuesday this week, its been getting worse everyday.
I just thought it was just a normal sore throat, i had a look in a mirror today at my throat, its really red with white spots on it.
Its gotten worse tonight, really painfull, my throat fills up with saliva in around 20seconds and i cant sleep.

So i jumped on here been searching symptoms to see what it is.

Turns out i pretty much have all the symptoms of Epiglottitis, here is a quick summary.
Epiglottitis is inflammation of the epiglottis - the flap that sits at the base of the tongue, which keeps food from going into the trachea (windpipe). Due to its place in the airway, swelling of this structure can interfere with breathing and constitutes a medical emergency. The infection can cause the epiglottis to either obstruct or completely close off the windpipe.

Epiglottitis typically affects children, and is associated with fever, difficulty swallowing, drooling, and stridor. It is important to note however that since the introduction of the Hemophilus infuenzae vaccination in many Western countries (including th UK), the disease is becoming relatively more common in adults. The child often appears acutely ill, anxious, and has very quiet shallow breathing with the head held forward, insisting on sitting up in bed. The early symptoms are insidious but rapidly progressive, and swelling of the throat may lead to cyanosis and asphyxiation.[citation needed] Cases in adults are most typically seen amongst abusers of crack cocaine and have a more subacute presentation. George Washington is thought to have died of epiglottitis.[/b]

I know this is the totally wrong place to be even talking about this but, they make it out to be really serious, i dont know weather it comes on quick, i started jogging again this week the first time since the start of the year.

And one more thing, im broke, i recently got sacked from my job, i have around $3 in my bank account and dont have medi-care or anything.

Do you have to pay at public hospitals?

how is it possible u dont have medicare? didnt fill out the form when u turned 18?

if ur under 18 u should be listed on your parents card.

with either of the above you will not pay a cent at any public hospital..... nor at medical centres or your GP....

with the last two you will need like 20 bucks to buy the pills they prescribe i guess....

if u survive this, make sure to get ur medicare card. it equals free healthcare, minus prescription meds.

oh and it doesnt cover the bullshit which private health cover advertises like massages and accupuncture, dental and ambulance. i swear dental is the only reason youd go private... even then they only cover 50%. i say brush your teeth properly and spend in stead thousands more on your hachi. :2thumbs:

just go, worry about paying later.

also, medicare does not = free gp visits unless you go somewhere that bulk bills. not too common and often (not always) fairly average service.

i went to a medicare centre on thursday to transfer off my parents medicare card.. (im 26.. lol) it to about 5 mins after i got served. which too quite a while.. its like a transport department in there (never been before)

even if your over 18, an you haven't changed your medicare over from your parents card, you should still be able to use it, the only other way you couldn't have meicare is if your an illegal lol.

just be warned that this could key out to something else, like meningicocal (i dunno how to spell it) or an allergic reaction, even minigitis. In otherwords get your ass to the doc man.

Sounds similar to what I had a couple of months ago, I went down to the doc for what I thought was the flu that wouldn't go away. Turns out I had a mild infection of the chest and some sort of viral infection, related to Glandular Fever (iirc). I got on the hard antibiotics, and was gone within a week.

Don't trust what an internet search provides you, get to a doctor and they should take care of you. Whether its in a hospital or where ever, they should look after you.

a medicare card is free people...why the hell dont you sign up for one...we pay our taxes for something.

and most clinics will let you pay afterwards anyway...they know where you live.

Sounds like cancer....

HAHA nah jokes dude, deffinitly sounds like Glandular Fever. I've had my Glandular Fever for fucking ages now. Lucky in a way you have no job, cause if it is Glandular Fever it will be nearly impossible to work for a month or so unless you want to have it for fucking forever like me and turn it into Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

then the same anti bodies are less than half as affective the second time round, its actually a really interesting process. taking half a course of antibiotics is 10 times worse than not taking them in the first place.

i went to a dodgey water theme park, got an ear infection, my stupid bitch of a doctor kept giving me like one course of antibiotics and just as they got better i ran out, the next day when i went to go see her id have it back, have to get different antibiotics, happened 3 times, i swear she planned it. It was almost to the day.
