its probably an adm im guessing with a 16v convo
so the tank doesnt have an in tank pump it has an external pump but no surg tank so ya need a low volume lift pump to feed a surg tank then from the surg tank you need to put the high volume pump

yer thats all well and good, and i agree with it completely.

but ive just got an external fuel pump plugged into my standard ke70 fuel tank. with no surge tank. and the only time i get any surging (noticeable change in engine) is when the tank is COMPLETELY empty, like fuel light constantly on. and every now and then if i turn hard it will misfire a bit.

other than that i get no problems what so ever, with normal driving and spirited "grip" driving. cant speak for psycho drifto.

ive got a surge tank setup here ready to go in.....but havent really needed to yet....

to the original poster, what fuel levels are you refereing to?

well its illegal not much else you can do tho, try and find a jdm tank with an intank pump thats about it i think you may be able to fit an intank pump to your adm one i dont no.

also when you open the fuel cap does heaps of air come out because your pump maybe pressurising the tank hense the reason it wont start and coughs and stuff, this happened in a 20v ae82 i had i just drilled a tinny hole in the fuel cap

No surge tank is a drama , I ran my sprinter at the hill climb on Sunday for the 1st time , had a quarter of a tank 7 on the 1st run engine cut out on every corner . Put 15 litres in and had no problems with cutting for the rest of the day. So will a high volume pump fix that or do I need a JDM baffled tank?????

you need a surge tank

Hen may possibly be a nut

OP - To see if fuel surge is the issue, throw 20 litres of petrol in the tank. If you still have problems then it isn't fuel surge you're seeing.

Also you can shoe-horn a surge tank under the arse end of a Sprinter. I got a 700ml job and fuel pumps under there. Pain to do, but works damn well.

Its not illegal to have a surge tank in NSW. Just you certainly can't have it in the boot. Its under car or engine bay only.

have you cleaned the fuel filter??
Also i once had a surge problem when cornering in my 16V sprinter and i had a surge tank.
Basically there was a plastic fuel filter in the low pressure hose coming from the lift pump to the surge tank. Now the filter itself was fine but what had happened was someone (probably me) had tighten the shit out of the hose clamp and crushed the bit where the hose goes onto the filter cutting the flow diameter down to nothing. So the surge tank was always very empty. I was lucky i didn't burn out the high pressure pump starving it all the time!! Oh and the fuel getting shoved through the small gap made this wierd howling squeak all the time so replacing the filter fixed that too :P

ke70 tanks are much better to run an external pump than ae86 but as said above just keep decent ammount of fuel in it. Still very possible to get fuel surge with a surge tank, just ask my detonated engine haha

Hey just got fuel pressure gauge to see whats happenen

changed the fuel filter might have a look to see if something is pinched etc.

let you all know 2moz
