Hi folks,

Who is clued up on their Toyota history?

I'm trying to find out the origin of the name Levin and why it was attached to the Corolla.

Some time back I heard it was due to some racing success in New Zealand but have been unable to confirm this.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks,

Jeff

I had heard... that the first Corolla to win a recognised race (KE10 or KE15?) was at the racetrack in Levin New Zealand. The track is no longer there, but the town still is. Obviously not a very significant event or we would have heard more.

The KE10 also won it's class at the Bathurst 500 in about 1969 from memory.

This is what I also heard many many years ago. I work with a kiwi and everytime I say Levin(rhyming with kevin) he say's NO the race track was prononuced le-vin. le vin in french is "the wine", maybe there were vine yards near the race track?????

Levin, New Zealand was named for William Hort Levin, a director of the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company. If you choose to beleive wikipedia.

Prado in spanish means wanker. Don't think the 4wd is called a prado in spanish speaking countries lol
MR2 is MRS france because Merde is shit in french.

Oh well. I guess we just have to stick to theories that can't be validated. lol

Like the NewZealand track, which I doubt is a true story either.

Im pretty sure that the translation is in Portuguese, not Spanish.

I've seen the words used before for something in Portuguese too.

The online dictionarys do say Levin means lightning, but also note the reference is Archaic. Meaning a very very old eupopean language not the same as used today. Like from the middle ages or something. Any current use seams to be someones surname, or the town (which was named after a persons surname).

Google Translator does nothing with the word Levin, from either Spanish or any other language that I have tried.

I heard it to be after the Levin circuit from New Zealand, but the Lightning theory is in tune with Trueno being Thunder.
In Hebrew the name Levin means Heart
