Car - KE70

motor - 4K

use - daily

problem - wont idle, just turns off half the time

occurs/started when - gradually over the past week or so.

I'm not sure if its got anything to do with the timing or the carby, but i cant seem to fix it. my mate thinks it's cause of the air/fuel mix, but we tried adjusting it, but that just worked for about a day or so.
Any ideas on what it could be would be really appreciated.

Bulk carby cleaner before you adjust anything.

Ive had 4ks before that did the same, particularly autos are annoying when this happens.

I found over the years they get crud in there, then get a bit choked up in the venturis, then basically people adjust the air and fuel to keep it running ok. What happens is you end up with a choked up car and limited ajustment on the carb for idle tuning.

So start with a good dose of carby cleaner, use your hand to restrict the opening on the carb while you revit with the other, to create immense vaccuum and suck all the crud out and through the motor, then it wont start once its clean so wind the air and fuel in to the factory settings and try again. It should be pretty right at this point unless you have other issues with the genral condition of the carby.

You may also have issues with the fuel cut solenoid, but try the easy fix first.

thanks for that. but, out of curiousity, which needle is which and whats the factory setting? i'm terribly new when it comes to actually doing things with cars. usually im the guy who watches everything happen. lol

also, would the carby have things to do with sometimes while excelerating it sorta cuts out for a split second and stutters, then goes back to normal?

New Needle and seat is what I would be changing first.

Also make sure that the FUEL SOLENOID is working.

And while you're at it, buy the rest of the carby overhaul kit and clean it all up with degreaser swap all the gaskets you can and put it all back together.

My money is on the fuel solenoid not working / wire fallen off.

On the stock Aisan carbys they have a solenoid that STOPS THE FUEL FLOW when the car is turned off. It is a common problem where the wire falls off or the solenoid becomes faulty. Even when the ignition is on, the solenoid doesn't OPEN and you only get a trickle of fuel...

^^^ Try that FIRST!

Personally id start with the basics if I was you.

Buy a manual.

Read the bits you need to know.

Start with the simplest options and work up to the more complicated ones.

I also feel the fuel solenoid could be cutting in and out and cutting the fuel at random times, which at idle will make it stall, and while driving will make it miss, unless it fails altogether it will just conk.

yeah unless the carbys mix is off and its starving it of fuel/air, then i think it sounds like the fuel solenoid too
