Hi all,
So i pulled my finger out and have decided to 4AGE my KE70 now i have been getting parts for quite sometime now and am at the stage where i ahve to put it together now im just wanting some advice and pros and cons of my selected setup where i can go better whats holding me back etc..
It should be Noted that i dont have barrels o cash sitting around but this is the best for what i can afford so this is what i'll lets and we'll go from there.
Engine Management:
- Std 4AGE Bigport ECU
- Emanage Blue With 4AGE Harness
Engine:
The bottom end will be completly balanced also.
- Bigport Head - Decked 10thou, Port Polish, Std Valves, Double Valve Springs
- Cams - Undecided - 256/264 or 264/264 or 272/256 (something like that)
- Block - 40thou Overbore
- Pistons - TIK 040, Mahle Chrome Rings
- Conrods - Std
- Crankshaft - Std (unless it needs work)
- Oil Pump - New OEM item
- Sump - Std
- Intake - Undecided - RWD Manifold With TVIS -OR- ITBS
- Exhaust - Kaizan Extractors into 2.5" system with Redback Hiflo CAT, Redback Resenator, Redback muffler (not cannon)
everything else std...
So what do you think is good/bad what should i change etc..

dont bother with quads if your only using a piggy back,
2 1/4 would be better for the exhaust.
using it for daily? weekend?

IMO
build motor with slightly higher comp, stock HG, all new parts and good quality ones (dont just got the standard ACL crap use king or someone a bit better), some nice streetable duration cams and most importantly build it WELL, with good even tolerances all round.
should be reliable and fun motor, bore the block if you wish i'd prefer higher comp....

lower the comp? WTF why would you want to do that?

to compensate for the increase in combustion chamber size.
although higher comp is what u want tho ;)

yeah exactly sunmoon
but maybe the pistons would be abit iffy
what about the cams?

Well, if you wanted to save some money you could use a standard block and pistons that were OK, rather than doing the overbore. Also, if the crank ballance is going to cost heaps, don't bother.
It just depends how much $$ you have. I hate to see 20 year olds without a car to drive because they aimed for a better motor they have the knowhow or $ to build.

I totally agree, rebuild a 4AGE to standard specs on standard management and work out from there.
Its best you start off with a JDM AE86 RWD motor too. They're more expensive, but you'll win in the end, so much better for the conversion.
I shouldn't set you back more than about $3000ish if you do the work yourself.

yep i was a sucker for this.
had half a 4age in my garage for a year, with "the big build" in mind.
sold it all, bought a complete 4age had it in within 3 months. winnah!
try a stock 4age 1st before spending the $
bingo!
all your money spent might not gain as much as you think (unfortunately). especailly considering that standard ecus are tuned very well. and what your talking about isnt that much different from standard.
my suggestions, start with a decent engine. put in a thin head gasket, replace all the other gaskets, and easily replaceable stuff (water pump, maybe oil pump if its stuffed) all the other seals.
put it in and drive!
then if your keen, get another 4age cheap for the monster build up. 4kc's suck to much to be spending years building a 4age:P

ok well this is how i stand at the moment
i have a complete 4AGE short motor, another short motor all in pieces, one block thats been bored 40thou, 2 sets of rods, brand new 40thou pistons & rings to suit, 2 bigport heads, 3 inlets FWD & 1 RWD one, ITBS w/ TPS, 2 complete engine looms, 3 ecus, emanage & 4AGE harness, 2 crankshafts - so i have all the parts 2 make 2 and abit engines
and since the short motor would have to be rebuilt i figured i may aswell use the 40tho bored block, and pistons, and etc...
the only thing i dont have or haven't decided to use is on my orginal post

hmz...
why not just get 100kw 4age, put cams and ECU, then go ITB when u got money laying around....from what i know, isnt that all you need and best money spent?...
i know we are all dreamers but not all dreams come true so have to come back to earth sometime
