you can sort everything out much cheaper but it's not exactly easy to source.

yeah i have been looking into fcr carbs, i found a set from a gskr for 250 delivered, and i can get a adapter plate made up for no more then 300, but was wondering how would they be tuned like the jets and all that shit.. and then comes things like the distributor beeing modified who/where would be able to do it. thats why i was asking if theres anyone on the forum who has done it before that can shed some light... i dont have have much knowledge of carburators so yeah its a lil hard to understand..

On the ecu question, if you wanna do it the legit way look into getting a dizzy locked and run an MSD computer setup which controls timing and let's you set a rev limiter etc.

ive been doing a r1 setup, having the manifold made as we speak and should be trying at lest to get it started in the next few weeks. my dad recons he is a carby wizz, we will see haha but he seems to know a bit and obviously u will need larger jets, he recons to drill out the ones u have incrementally also keep ur standard dizzy and use a hyperpak ignition computer they need to know if ur using a big port dizzy (3 wires) or a small port (4 wires)

man, if california didn't have such smog emissions laws with the harsh penalties, i would definitely have gone carbureted.
some info from club4ag if you haven't seen already.

I think its pretty pointless if you're going to use OEM carbs, you simply won't get the jets, fitting gear etc you can get for the aftermarket ones.
Yet to see one with anything bar aftermarket FCRs which makes decent power and drives well.
The kit on yahoo is pretty reasonably priced.
IMO go 20v throttles and aftermarket ECU for 1/4 the price.

i think u will find FCRs are oem for gsxr motorbikes and such, and complete 20v itbs, trumpets, manifold, with aftermarket ecu with dyno tuning for $500... sounds bargain!

I think you will find GSX-R etc OEM FCRs are not the same as the aftermarket ones and do not share the same selection of jets and tuning parts.

OEM for CBR/R1/GSXR etc are usually Mikuni CV or Keihin CVK.
FCR were an upgrade for sports bikes but generally not OEM.

That was going to be my next tack, I was pretty sure I'd never seen a proper flatslide on any of them only CV type carbs. But if they did come with flatslides, from my experience with MX bikes they would be limited in tuning potential compared to aftermarket ones.
btw turn69up, I think it would be possible to do a set of ITBs for $500, though more like $1k if you use an ECU you don't have to build yourself.

i see, was wondering why i couldent find 41mm downdraft FCRs for under a grand so i went r1 Mikuni's for $200 :D

You sure the Hyperpak ignition works with a small port dizzy? Any links/info?

Yes they need to know if its the 4 wire (small port) or 3wire (bp) dizzy when u order, in the link i put up before i think it says somthing about it

I've been running R1 carbs on my very tired 4AGE for a while now, from actual experience of doing it they're a pretty good thing. Agreed they're not as good as a set of FCRs but they definitely don't cost half as much. All the ignition setups already mentioned are all good, I'm looking to revert back to a hyperpak + standard distributor, as for the moment I'm running a mechanical advance dizzy. Seems to work alright.
Keeping in mind my 4A is smokey, in serious need of a rebuild and the only tune on the carbs was done by myself with no prior knowledge of tuning CV type carbs - the old girl managed to out lap a silvertop 20v clubman around Symmons, pull away slightly on the straights and also pull away from a freshly built smallport in a panelvan.
I drive it everyday, it's an asshole to start when cold but once it's warm it starts and runs almost like an EFI car. There is some videos of it below. If you've got the resources do it! But get to know your local motorbike workshop/tuner, they will come in handy for jets/needles/etc and maybe some good advice.
